It _is_ really weird, that didn't use to happen either. Started happening after some update of either Chrome or macOS, I'm not certain which. In fact I think this is one of the most frustrating things of working with WebGL (or any

Hi, I'm the author of the rain effect (not of the website itself though). You can see the original effect here[1], along with an explanation here[2]. If you like it, you can see a few more effects and experiments on my portfolio here[3

It has already been posted by jeffschofield, but the original is here[1], along with a brief article breaking down the effect[2]. The one you posted is in many ways nicer though due to it all being a single shader, however it has the downsi

There was an attempt of making the drops merge more naturally, but it was affecting the refraction effect, which I deemed was more important. It should be solvable though, I just couldn't get the values right at the time. (Also thanks!

Hey, I'm the author--thanks for posting this here. The page actually uses the exact same effect, so the article provides a decent breakdown of how it works, for those interested.

We've had -3ºC these weeks, which is about as cold as it gets here. It snows in some regions but it's a bit rare, once in a year in some places, once in a decade in others.

FWIW it is getting worse just now in the south of Brazil, where we have colder winters.

I like that push notifications on the browser exist (for e.g. Slack, WhatsApp), I just wish there were no popups for it--just an unintrusive button you could press to enable it.

Do try vscodevim, I made the switch and I haven't looked back. Best of both worlds for me.

I just wanna give my 2c in that after some years using vim I've started using vscodevim and I just love it. Perhaps it helps that it happens to match my vim config pretty closely (surround, easymotion, + language plugins and stuff such

Here’s a lil trick: if you have to, you can access your Facebook messages on mbasic.facebook.com. (And on to the point, Facebook has also, of course, WhatsApp, which is massive)

I am credited for the "menu code" and "inspiration", though, hahah But it doesn't matter, I posted the code for it to be used, I'm glad to see it in the wild.

This got me started: https://webglfundamentals.org/ You've probably come across it though, as it does seem to gloss over some basic stuff. But it does cover the basics pretty well, just gotta keep an eye for details an

It's been a while since I made this, but it's a good suggestion! Rest assured that there was hardly any method to it though, mostly hair-pulling when things did not look quite good! (which is, for me at least, the biggest pain in

It actually did not have anything to do with being resource intensive or such, it had to do with looks—with the raindrops sharp I had to get the parameters of the refraction perfectly right, it seemed, for it to look convincing, otherwise i

This has not been done in the most optimal way—it could do with a lot less JS being used. A version with (mostly) WebGL could be much less resource hungry. Try this version for comparison: https://codepen.io/stefanweck/

This is not a single shader, the animation is done with JS/canvas 2d, the shader does just the refraction. I wrote an article about it here[1], but I made this back when I was first learning WebGL (it was my first WebGL project, in fac

(Author here) Thanks! I was making a version with a better "impact" effect and better "trails", which are the weakest parts currently in my opinion, as well as making the larger raindrops sharper—they get a bit blurry ri

This effect uses both WebGL and canvas 2d. I'd guess that for some reason the canvas 2d isn't using hardware acceleration on those browsers? Somebody has made a version using WebGL alone[1] (sadly they got the refraction a bit wro

Hey, I made this for Codrops, like 2 or 3 years ago? I mean, the rain effect itself, not the whole UI around it here. Edit: Here's[1] the accompanying article, and here's[2] some other stuff I made (although my website is also jus

Interesting. In (Brazilian) Portuguese, "isso" and "isso aí" ("this", "this there") is used to confirm or agree with something, so it seems the expression survived the times.

It depends where; in Brazil, for instance, WhatsApp groups are becoming the main social network for a large amount of people—nevermind 1:1 chat.

If it's your native language, or if you're at a good level of fluency, you don't have to "remember" it, it comes naturally. I agree it's harder for students though.
