Funny enough, I can't stand Lao Gan Ma, there's a subtle taste to it that I find gross. I can't taste that flavor every time I use it, but if if I put it on dumplings it's there. However, I love some of the alternative v

By and large I think wealthier people have more incentives to limit their drug use. They have hobbies, jobs, etc, that they probably enjoy and don't want to ruin via drug use. On the other hand when everything in your life sucks becaus

Turns into a nightmare of course. But it's gated by how much you can afford to pay. The new congestion charges will really be a boon to the ultra-wealthy since the charges are minuscule compared to what they are willing to pay and it w

Not in a lot of Europe. Tolls are high and gas taxes are high. Driving from London to Rome can cost several hundred euros in tolls.

My work brings me into contact with many high net worth individuals in Manhattan. They all take cars most of the time. It is faster than the subway, usually, and even when it isn't you can get more done in the car. Even in the U.S.

It doesn't grow in value if real prices are adjusting simultaneously.

Deflationary currencies shouldn't be an issue if real prices adjust at a similar pace. The theoretical problem with deflation is mostly that wages are sticky and you can't lower someone's pay very easily. But if everyone has

I'm fine with a carbon tax, but this entirely ignores that it may end up being regressive in the US since so many people in lower income brackets depend on older cars, and can't just upgrade to a Tesla if gas gets more expensive.

That is incorrect. GDP is typically calculated using an expenditure approach. Just transferring 185MM would not impact GDP.

Plus it was an unprecedented investment in labor. An entire generation of young men were either killed or maimed, or they received job training and the offer of a free college degree. Suddenly you have an exceedingly employable workforce. A

The Wealth Effect is a real consideration here. During 2007 people cut their spending considerable because their houses went down in value, even if they were not, at that time, trying to sell their home. You would see the wealth effect work

That's pretty reasonable! I'm in Brooklyn and the garage by me is $500/month. Which is part of why I don't own a car.

To be fair, there's probably an efficient frontier problem in pedestrianizing neighborhoods. If you closed off the entirety of Manhattan to cars, it would probably destroy Manhattan, but if you closed off specific areas such that peopl

Right, but at some point you have to question why these things are so cheap. What conditions are you helping to perpetuate by buying inexpensive clothes and meat? Not that you're obligated to spend your money differently than you do. B

I think the issue with inequality that bothers many people includes an extra feature, how difficult it is for someone to move between percentiles of wealth. If it were easy to join the top 10% in wealth via intelligence, grit, and hard-work
