Abstractions are just technical terms for analogies, and they commonly break down as you go deeper down the stack ;).

Surprising, where I am in Canberra, I never see it below 1.99 AUD/litre for the cheapest ethanol heavy stuff, but at my local nearly always see it above $2 AUD. But I don't get fuel that often so maybe I've just missed the dr

Wow, really? Different here in Australia, petrol is $5.50/gallon ($2.2 per litre converted), batteries I don't know, but EVs are crazy expensive. And housing is absolute madness, Eg Sydney median house price is something like $1.1

Turns out "Cloud" is someone else's computer, with the same possible issues. Saying that, I would be very surprised if the same ever happened on S3. Not saying it won't, but if the specs are to be believe, seems pretty r

How is that possible when they don't even disclose pricing on their main page? I'm not disbelieving you, I'm just struggling to understand.

I can't see any citation to accuracy comparisons, or maybe I just missed them? Given the amount of data, and complexity of the domain, it would be good to see a much more detailed breakdown of their performance vs other models. My expe

I think the parent is more talking about the other common situation where organizations start focusing on maximizing profits, rather than just working towards a basic profitability. Eg, Google Maps API pricing comes to mind. Yes, OpenAI mig

Australia broadband is not great, but a few years ago I got fibre installed (at my own expense), and since have benefitted from actual competition among ISPs. The little ISP I’m with bills a daily rate which you can change at any point with

From my understanding, embedding models are just one layer of a modern LLM that do the similarity part as described in the post. The translation of representing content as a part of a common vocabulary in a vector. My understanding is that

Absolutely, same here in Australia. Using markets as a mechanism for price discovery (what they are good at) for a necessity has gone predictably badly. Yes, people will put themselves in huge amounts of debt for a secure living situation,

I can't seem to find what the original prompt was in the article? I'd hate injected ads, but if the prompt was literally "What are the best gaming laptops of 2023, how much do they cost and where do I buy them?" I don&#x

I use GPT4 like I would ask a question on StackOverflow. While my prompts are relatively long compared to a web search, I’ve found the results really good. I usually state the problem, provide code context, motivations, and end with restati
