From the interview I linked, Apple Privacy head Erik Neuenschwander said, “The hash list is built into the operating system, we have one global operating system and don’t have the ability to target updates to individual users and so hash li

We’ll have to wait and see how good their neural hashing is, but just to clarify the 1 trillion number is the “probability of incorrectly flagging a given account” according to Apple’s white paper. I think some people think that’s the proba

Non-zero being technically true because of the subject matter, but I don’t see how Apple’s system increases the risk of authorities killing family or pets more than server-side scanning.

In this TechCrunch interview, Apple believes it is less invasive since no one can be individually targeted. The hashes are hard coded into each iOS release which is the same for all iOS devices. The database is not vulnerable to server side

Keep in mind, this manual review only happens after Apple’s system detects multiple occurrences of matches. Until that point, no human is alerted of matches nor does anyone see how many matches there have been. In a TechCrunch interview App

I’ve started to shift to this workflow too. There is content that I use once a week yet the tabs don’t always stay the same so the tab group paradigm is much better than committing everything to bookmarks and having to keep them updated.

Try Command + Option + V to paste and delete the source file (cut and paste). I remember this command was I implemented a few years back and I think it was to reduce chances of unpasted files from disappearing or something. In fact, opening

I recently submitted an article, which after I read it, made me think the same thing. We could’ve had cleaner indoor air and fewer points of failure if just used electricity. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=26128180

My eyes were opened when I saw someone ask for a cup noodle outside of the meal/snack time. It never occurred to me you could do that. I still feel weird asking and have only done it once.

I like the AirPod Pro’s for this when I’m on the streets. I can listen to music with one ear on relatively low volume with noise cancellation. When I use the same volume and disable noise cancellation, I have to turn up the volume around 20

Again, this is another thing where Apple improve for an “already solved problem”. You don’t need to press any buttons. Just interact with your devices as normal and your audio connection switches automatically as if sound were playing throu

I hit 30 earlier this year and I’ve accepted the fact that I can’t hold onto memories as vividly anymore. Even life-changing events that happened last year feel distant whereas when I was younger I could relive memories in my mind, not nece

I’m from Canada, so while we don’t have civil service points that I’m aware of, it sounds like the wage is similar. There’s a lot of overtime so people can definitely pull in more than $60k. I was never part of the 6 figure startup scene co

I left the industry for the exact same reasons as you. I like like solving problems conceptually, but don’t actually care for the hours of bug fixing and learning syntax. I stopped pursuing it because I don’t think I have the drive to make

That is scary. I zoomed in expecting to see farmland but instead they were bald patches. Just like male pattern baldness by the time you notice it, the process is already well underway.

I haven’t read writing this long without closing the tab in a very long time. The writers melancholic stream of thought in the context of working at a tech startup is great.
