I can understand not wanting to move very far, but the location is in many ways great: French alps within driving distance, Jura within walking distance, the lake, old architecture, lots of fields and forests. World-leading public transport

IME the vast majority of startups actually pay terribly, because they can lure a bunch of inexperienced people in with the prospect of making buck in the longer term. I'm sure there are startups which pay well, but I suspect they are a

Nix, CDK, and (to a lesser extent) Puppet are good alternatives, depending on exactly what you're trying to do. Nix is fantastic for reproducibility on individual machines and not borking the rest of the system when used on a non-NixOS

15 shaves per blade is maybe for the ultra-cheap ones. The Gillette Mach Turbo 3s I've been using for 15+ years last maybe 50+ shaves each, much better than other brands. Even the "ordinary" Mach 3 blades last much shorter.

I expect this is a placebo effect. It's completely possible to feel more productive without actually being more productive. Looking back on the (admittedly very few) caffeine-fuelled stints I've had they were just more chaotic

Trolling often involves bad faith communication, but bad faith communication isn't necessarily trolling. Consider politicians, salespeople, and advertisers who are willing to convince by any means possible.

Postel's law is for when it's hopeless to get to a sane standard in the near-to-mid term, as with HTML and JS back in the day. Browsers had to implement ridiculously lenient parsing to provide a reasonable user experience on top o

In mathematics or other formal systems you can disprove a statement. In empirical studies that's a literally impossible bar to meet, indicating infinite certainty.

This is really bad editorializing: the original uses "challenges", while this uses "disproves". "Disproves" is not appropriate in any empirical setting, doubly so where there are constant back-and-forth "
