The vocal detractors of TDD have never seen it in action.
After some 10 years as a developer I met the first person who actually knew how to practice TDD. It was eye opening how fast they could produce quality code.
- v-erne 5y agoAny idea where can I see it in action? (maybe some Youtube channel where someone streams himself coding and is using this method) And are You sure that You was able to properly distinct between methodology and man himself doing the magic? (I'm asking because there are people that can make anything work through their sheer brilliance).
- l0b0 5y agoNo idea if you can see it in action anywhere, but I haven't been looking for it. But you're on the right track - you have to learn from seeing it in action (ideally pairing, like we did at that job), the process isn't visible in the end result (except as good quality code, which you could arrive at by other means with IMO much more effort). I can't be sure, but what they did was reproducible (albeit slower) by all of us at the job, and I've been trying to learn it properly and get to the point where I can teach it ever since. Not there yet.
