Yeah... I've also worked on corporate Java projects with no Ant, Maven, nor hand-rolled substitute, where the build process was to download the dependencies' jars from the internet manually into /lib.

Attack integer linear programming problems in business Yep, this can be lucrative if you find a company with a genuine need for it. The company I work for has recently seized an opportunity to apply a mixed integer linear algorithm to a s

Throwing their code on github, releasing cross-platform applications, and making it free to upgrade to Win10 is a big step in the right direction. They should also make Windows itself open source and just sell enterprise support.

Usually somebody jams some sort of runner into a Maven project as a different build step or something Like this? http://maven.apache.org/ant-tasks/

Task running is more what Ant is for, isn't it? Maven is more of a dependency management tool than a task runner. A lot of Java projects use both tools together for builds. I've never used it, but MSBuild sounds like Microsoft

Does Typed Racket give you a way to run your whole program through a typechecker without executing the code? Because catching type errors at compile time is a major benefit you get from a static type checker, that you wouldn't get from

I don't think he's conflating modules with objects. He's saying that if you have (class-based) objects, you don't need modules because object classes already provide superset of the functionality of modules. In particula

I'd pick Campbell's, that 2.77% dividend yield is nothing to sneeze at when interest rates are this low.

All markup languages converge toward Turing completeness, just like all programming languages converge toward Lisp. Just use a homoiconic language--a language where code is data and data is code--and you won't have these kinds of probl

Right, there's a huge impedance mismatch between COBOL and Java, but couldn't you say the same for any other modern PL? I don't see how migrating COBOL to Python or Clojure or Haskell would be much easier than migrating it to

I work at a company that is in the middle of a massive COBOL -> Java migration project. The core transaction processing system has 1.3 million lines of HP3000 COBOL that is pre-compiled to 13 million lines of Micro Focus COBOL, so that

Sort of, at least in the sense that you can eval JSON from JS code rather than having to parse it yourself. This is one of many language concepts that JavaScript cribbed from the Lisp/Scheme family of functional languages.

By "inside the build" do you mean in the git repo? Because there isn't really a such thing as a "build" for a Python web app, it's a dynamic language. It's not like Java where you'd have to recompile
