Which pronunciation of Seoul is it like? The way Koreans pronounce it? The way Americans pronounce it? The way Europeans pronounce it? I'm confused because Seoul doesn't have an 'e' sound in it at all, in Korean.

I used to work at a steamship line, a competitor to MSC, at a US port office. The port terminals take security very seriously, but some of the steamship lines' offices are a bit lax. It doesn't surprise me at all that they were ab

You can use Node in place of PHP or Python to implement a REST API backend. You can also use it to run scripts the same way you would use Python to do that. Windows doesn't use node, they have their own JS runtime and a GUI framework t

For example, Java and Go are both languages whose designers intentionally and radically reduced the use of many of the abstractions available in other popular languages of their time. Java is a perfect example of proliferation of accident

I don't understand this argument. Clojure shouldn't have transducers because the word sounds scary? Programming language designers should avoid adding powerful, higher-order abstractions because they are hard to understand? This s

Template Haskell and QuasiQuoters are optional in Yesod too. The project scaffold you get when you run `yesod init` uses TH and QQ by default, but you don't have to use the scaffold: http://www.yesodweb.com/blog/20

Being from Seattle, I don't have the habit of saying "y'all" but I recognize its utility. I like it much more than "you guys." I guess the Northeast equivalent would be "you's." The worst thing e

The path of least resistance would have been to write the ASP-to-PHP transpiler, check in the PHP, and stop there.

I think it's perfectly legitimate for a company to build those things when it's not their core business, provided that A. They hire people who are legitimate experts and give them free reign to work on it, and B. They open-source

Stack is freaking awesome (brings compile times down dramatically, prevents cabal hell) but I'm sad that it doesn't seem to work with emacs haskell-mode and yesod-bin yet (because those tools depend on a .cabal dir). Stack support

You can't pass a static method as an argument to another static method. You can't write a static method that returns a static method. You can't partially apply a static method. Static methods are not functions.

Maybe you don't need a PHD, but from my perspective you do need more than an undergraduate in Engineering. You just need a lot of patience. Learning Haskell takes a lot more than a few days. But it's worth it. Haskell is the onl

It's a joke ok? And have you never heard a lawyer joke before? A lot of lawyers laugh at them too. This part was funnier though: Many people try to compare Rust to Go, but this is flawed. Go is an ancient board game that emphasizes st

It's an interesting idea, but the fact that the Rust compiler is an AOT compiler with an extremely minimal runtime makes it seem like a poor fit for Clojure which is very much an interpreter/REPL-driven language.
