Yeah, what kind of steak sandwich would only have 459 calories? I wouldn't expect any reasonably sized and palatable steak sandwich to pack less than 800!

The author holds up Yesod's low adoption rates (compared to what? Ruby on Rails? Ruby was arguably Flub a few years ago, and Yesod is much younger than Rails) as an example of how powerful programming languages aren't making as bi

What drives me crazy is spreadsheets as a reporting / BI tool. Just because Excel does graphs and charts, and everyone knows how to use Excel, the result is that everyone only knows how to make graphs and charts in Excel.

If they already learned imperative language concepts, sure it's discouraging because people who know things don't like to go back to being beginners again. But if they're completely starting from scratch, I'm not convinc

Of course the problem is, if you're passing a pointer to a data structure to a function, the function doesn't know the size of the data structure unless you pass that as another argument.

POJO just means a class that doesn't extend a framework class or have framework annotations. The opposite of a POJO would be something like an Enterprise Java Bean or a Persistence Entity--which are configured via XML to subvert the ty

The nice thing about JavaScript is that you have first-class functions that are closures, so you don't have to do OOP at all if you don't want to. And your objects don't have to define methods because you can just define func

Functional languages support this view, with powerful features like Haskell's typeclasses and Clojure's protocols and multimethods. It really boils down to the expression problem. If you imagine a grid of implementations where row

One of my favorite long-form blog posts about OOP[1] explains why data type inheritance is generally quite useful, but the entire concept of inheritance has been unfairly maligned because in OOP languages, inheritance of data types is tied

Angular is helpful because it promotes things like loose-coupling, dependency injection, modularity, re-use and the factory pattern. Modularity and code re-use are like apple pie and motherhood. The real question is, do you need dependenc
