It's not clear to me from the page: does C-x v v commit all modified files (like git commit -m), or just the current file? I'd like more information about how this interacts with the git index in general.

But, are you sure that the "impractical" degree programs are actually doing any better? Perhaps at top private schools one can get a good liberal arts education, but my observation going to a public school was that the science and engineer

This sort of thing also tells me that people have an incorrect notion of what our work is really like. As a senior developer, I spend quite a bit of time interacting with people: discussing the problems our customers have; how we can make

I was similarly curious about that whole sentence. My sense among people I know is that LBGTetc are not particularly underrepresented in tech; and are possibly overrepresented. (Once you correct for the overall underrepresentation of fema

He's right. Say you have a laser pointer and point it at a screen some distance away. Now, you rotate the pointer such that the tip is moving at, say 1/10th the speed of light. Simple geometry tells you that the spot on the screen will mo

The article has been edited since I wrote my comment. That was an exact quote from the article at the time. (And I'm pretty sure there was no mention of integration testing at that point, either.)

But the article isn't about not religiously following TDD. It's about why "I don’t write any unit tests or specs". Testing isn't discontinuously one or the other. There's a huge, continuous spectrum in between the two extremes.

No one wants to pay extra for glasses and watch a faux 3D illusion. Really? Because I remember a lot of people here a few months ago saying that you were wasting your money if you didn't pay extra to see Avatar in 3D. Personally, I agr

There is a still popular perception that Macs are for frivolous hippies and PCs is what real people use to do real work. I'd tend to disagree. That might have been the attitude a decade ago, but today I think it goes more like "Sure, Mac

Copyleft was conceived as a hack of the copyright system, a necessary evil because placing a work in the public domain allows other people to profit from the work. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Copyleft : As Stallman deemed it impract

Do you collect any metrics on user behavior? For example, it seem to me like downvoting (and particularly the abuse of downvoting) is on the rise. But this is just a gut feeling based on my particular comment history.
