When I learned about the cardinal language folks a few years ago I thought it was so cool that I’ve tried to always keep in mind which way is north ever since. Whenever I learn enough of a new language to speak sentences I feel as though th

I love small and medium sized games. I'm nearly done working on one now actually (although I can't release it at the moment). If anyone is looking for games like this here are a few single player games I'd recommend: Monumen

My biggest gripe with Rust is that is doesn't spark joy. I intellectually agree with a lot of its goals but every time I write some Rust I just find it dreary. Maybe it's the ugly syntax, maybe it's the "code feel"

Between languages like Go, Rust, Swift, and others I feel pretty optimistic about these new players (and I very much prefer more language diversity). No surprise to see generics being so strongly pined for again. Very curious about how Go g

Are there commercially successful roguelikes that use ascii art only? Dwarf Fortress is the only one I know of and it's getting an official makeover for the Steam release.

What is described in the article doesn't fit the definition of panic. I'm torn because maybe I wouldn't have read the article without the needless anthropomorphization. Plants are awesome and interesting to me because they&#x

Yes, I'd put a wager that Go will have a long lifespan. I think there will eventually be a few copycat Go-style languages with some bits and bobs from other languages (immutability, exceptions, etc) but the bones will be the same.

Developer convenience. If the language gives you an out to manage it yourself for performance: that's cool too. I agree with the claim in the essay that there will always be a need for full throttle performance, which rules out a GC or

I think with the slowing progress of single threaded performance modern languages require three essential features if they want to be "main branches" of the language evolutionary tree. 1. easy parallelism 2. easy networking 3. man

I think part of the issue with RSS is the real pain of dealing with XML. I'm mildly cheering for something like https://jsonfeed.org - which would be a big step towards making a decentralized system more of a reality.
