To be honest I am just very lazy and would appreciate a simple GUI to make the build and project files. I guess Visual Studio has made me lazier ;)

One of the best things about Java is that getting old code running on newer hardware is so much easier compared to the COBOL cluster-fuck we have these days. Hopefully we won't see as much 30+ year old hardware running our mission crit

I want to use QT Creator but I find some things frustrating such as finding out how to change compiler options in a reliable way. Sometimes it is QMAKE_CXXFLAGS or some other option in the .pro file. In every other IDE it is a tick box in p

iTunes has been awful for years . The only reason it hasn't got worse is because devices are more powerful. I do think they are producing more and more buggy-on-release software with a video game mindset of "patch it post launc

Yes I was aware of the iPlayer HTML5 opt-in which is what I was hoping to see for the rest of the site. Given that they have all the content in HTML5-friendly video anyway it shouldn't be all that painful.

Indeed. Frustrates the HELL out of me even more because all their videos are available in web-friendly MP4 for the mobile services and you can get to them if you spoof the user agent. I wish they would just let me toggle a "beta"

The Head First series gets treated a bit like the For Dummies series of old however I think it is a bit unfair. I read Head First C a year ago and it is a fantastic introduction to C. I was really impressed to see an intro to C book (not in

I'm not all that fond of Assange for other reasons however I disagree that he is hiding. Everyone knows where he is and he is only there to protect himself. He has never disagreed to being questioned at the embassy. I believe he is cor

Yes, I never meant to imply they are the same, just that VSCode is "Atom-like" in that it is a code editor built using the same core framework as Atom.

On Windows Visual Studio is still very much the default in the context of Windows only developers. Some people/projects prefer to use MinGW-W64 builds with an IDE such as Code::Blocks, CodeLite, QtCreator, etc. With VS Community coming

Visual Studio does not run on anything other than Windows. However there is an Atom-like code editor called Visual Studio Code that is multi-platform running on Windows, OS X and Linux. I believe VSCode is built on the same platform (Electr

I am a strong believer in learning C as your first language. Why? Well a number of reasons but the two main ones are 1) it teaches you about what is happening at a lower level so you have some idea about what is happening behind the scenes

I was thinking more from the can you do a manual in system replacement like this on Windows. I guess in some ways doing an upgrade from 7/8 to 10 is similar but it doesn't really feel the same.
