I think we are talking about repurposing a small computer previously used as a mobile handset into a server. This is already possible and done with Android and Linux handsets. It is just not as straightforward as using a RPI with a distribu

You might be assuming I am trying to evade an APT or I am of any interest to them. That is a fun rabbit hole to go down, and I realize they could spend resources to pursue these avenues. Other comments summarily say that if you try to prote

Agreed. We can only mitigate by tactics: -not associating the device ID's to personal ID's. -only using cellular in limited situations. -rotating the SIMs periodically with other family members

Nobody is looking for me. I don't have any regular commute either. I just make sure not to use cellular at my house since that would narrow the owner of the SIM down to one of the people living in this house.

jmp.chat can be paid for with a virtual card and not tied to any ID. However I have it associated to my real ID in this case as it is the number everybody knows. I use the word 'mitigate' not 'solve' since closed source

It is the same general location about half a mile from home where I flip over. This is to ensure location from cell tower triangulation does not identify my home and therefore me.

If you are using the Android OS originally installed on the phone, you can deactivate many of these at the OS level (not baseband) using ADB. This does not require rooting. An easy way to find and deactivate these codes is to use the UAD (U

Location tracking rarely helps recover a phone or prosecute a thief. If you don't like being followed all the time, implement private phone tracking such as in Next cloud.

Nextcloud ecosystem is best of class rather than best of breed. Not every app is the best, but many are under active development and improving rapidly. I might have too many eggs in one basket, the the maintenance is very easy this way.

Yes we are using the same closed source hardware as 99% of people. Open source HW is ideal, but the options are currently very limited. I use rotating burner SIMs on occasions when I need cellular and never make calls with the SIM. The OS p

I am not sure it is, but Graphene has an optional sandboxed Google Play Services that does not require signature spoofing and does not require a Google account. I have it installed on a work profile for some proprietary work apps that requi

I use grapheneos.org on a Pixel phone. I have tried many AOSP variants. Graphene is hands down the most secure, private, and functional. Couple this with Nextcloud and you have a superior setup.

GrapheneOS is a project rather than just a few devs. They have exhibited very high focus on security and peer review before commits. The code is FOSS and heavily audited by the most paranoid people like me. It is one of many AOSP projects w
