If a system evolved where a significant proportion of communications were difficult for the security services to monitor, encryption would be criminalized and it's users vilified as unpatriotic.

Tempora in the UK stores all internet data for 3 days and metadata for 30 days too. Wouldn't surprise me if most western governments use XKeyscore along with data sharing agreements with each other.

I'd like a distro with ZFS/BTRFS, LXC and KVM, with a user friendly configuration layer on top. Not necessarily a GUI. Really, a Linux version of SmartOS. I really like SmartOS but I like to get as much running in Zones as possibl

Anecdotally, Using NFS with Vagrant / Virtualbox instead of the default Virtualbox shared folder speeds up things drastically. Add the following line in your Vagrantfile to test it out: config.vm.share_folder "/vagrant"

Ha ha, no worries. I'm sure my lazy English contributed with the 'see also', too.

The sources don't contradict each other? 1.1 is several times faster then 1.03 in both benchmarks.

Uh? They are two separate benchmarks, that's why I said 'See also'.

It was a basic newly generated Revel app running in production mode. Not hitting a DB. Benchmarked with 'ab -n 10000 -c 30 http://localhost:9000/some_action . See also: https://github.com/davecheney/autobench BenchmarkHTTPClientServer 3

FWIW, I benchmarked a basic Revel web app. Go 1.0.3 = 2850 req/sec ... 1.1 = 10928 req/sec.

I see it fairly often in Rails controllers, e.g. render :action => "some_action" and return

I think you may need the caret at the end if you are using apt-get rather than tasksel directly: $ apt-get install lamp-server^

Is it really that difficult? The last time I had to install LAMP stack was on Ubuntu and it was something like: $ sudo tasksel install lamp-server

That's actually a lot better than the deal the UK got on the ARM Chromebook released last week, which was priced at $249 in the USA and £229 in the UK. After taking 20% VAT into consideration, that's only a x1.07 premium compared to the US

I think it will be great for deaf / hearing impaired people. Just an arrow pointing in the direction of the sound / speech + some text indicating a best guess at what was said. Google's voice recognition is getting much better recently.

Initially thought this referred to 'Jetpac' - the 8-bit game by Ultimate Play The Game. This looks cool though too. Good luck!

So, LinkedIn down. Reddit currently down too. Also StumbleUpon, Yelp. Also down early today Heroku, Netflix, Instagram, Rapportive, Pinterest ... Not a good day for the Internet. Are these all EC2 issues ? Leap second issues ?

Question: If I host the domain for my UK business on one of these (and say it is a generic .com - not a .co.uk domain), will it influence my google.co.uk SERP ranking massively ? How would Google know my .com site is UK based?

This wouldn't bother me at all if I didn't think they still had the data. The transient nature of tweets is one of my favourite features of Twitter.

Christ alive, I thought HP would struggle to offload to a more stale and boring company than themselves but they might just manage to pull it off.
