I think it's to calculate where the cameras are in the room. If you know where the four corners of the board are in each view you can figure out the position of each camera, and then the two views can be merged properly.

Yeah the whole issue is being talked about in a very bizarre way. If Flash were really just dying, no one would be talking about it (see JavaFX). If Flash/Flex were simply not accessible, there would be a push to get better accessibility su

It's fascinating to think about Symantec's motivations for creating that very well-produced, streamlined video. It basically plays like an ad for Stuxnet, the growth of which represents the creation of a new market for Symantec.

One option is if you wrap the ExtJS content in a div with an id of "xyz", then find the rule you want to override e.g. in Firebug, you can make a rule in your custom stylesheet that has the same selector as the ExtJS one but prepended with

It's disturbing that (among other things) this programmer has so confidently separated humanity into "crowd"s, and feels free to deride and explain his superiority to at least two of these crowds in his quotes. I'm surprised that this degre

I download the "developer preview", unzip the dmg, open the dmg, put it in Applications, open the app, and now I need a username and password? It should require a login before downloading to avoid annoying people.

Finally Adobe responds to criticism with some actual technology. Next they need to promise improved performance and stability, and an agressive schedule for these features. Having a beta in "the first half of 2011" isn't particularly encour

The main way to get Flash is through alternative content placed inside an <object> tag which should be displayed when a player is not found. So normally a download button would appear, in the screenshot though it looks like Engadget

The biggest threat to Microsoft is their lack of a clear vision and message about where Office is going. I guess there's some strange service at officelive.com where I can maybe store, maybe edit documents online, but possibly I need a lice

Agreed, very slick. The only part that I think is confusing is the inclusion of a 1/4" jack in the logo. I think of guitars and headphones and not telephones when I see that, which moves me further away to the meaning of "phono" that the si

"The ironic thing about it is the sims in Magnasanti tolerate it" I don't think any irony or toleration is going on here, at least not more so than the players in Madden "tolerate" being forced to play football again and again. The players

And even if Facebook never litigates, this still distracts entrepreneurs from solving useful problems. Every meeting or hour of research that foursquare or gowalla or some new startup has to give to this is time wasted.

I think it's right to be strict on this given that the labor market is so asymmetrical even without anti-poaching collusion. Employers get detailed resumes, credit reports, references, and often salary history before hiring. Employees are e

I always wish they would make clear "rules of engagement" in shows like Man vs Wild. In other words the crew is not allowed to provide any assistance or interference until the person trying to survive says its an emergency, and they would s

Some of these examples are silly. Adding sound effects (Foley) is completely standard practice. The fact that Winged Migration involves training birds to fly next to cameras is fully documented in the "making of" feature on the Winged Migra

Exactly. While the technical sense of valuation might be tautological, it's also nowhere near the average person's definition of economic "value" or "worth". A good test in the every-day sense of those words might be if company X were given

Also the Flex APIs are extremely tightly bound to closed-source Flash APIs, so its really not an entity unto itself. To be fair though, it is "open" enough to allow for example IntelliJ to support Flex development in IDEA.

A "method" which is not being acted out physically, but instead is in someone's head or written down on paper is a type of idea. So some ideas are patentable, others aren't. The mantra that ideas aren't patentable presumes some other catego

Yeah I don't understand this either. Is there any way to sell a closed-source piece of software which integrates with Wordpress? What's the difference from software like www.copilot.com which uses GPL software (TightVNC) at its core?

If you do use XSLT make sure to use 2.0 if at all possible. It has some key features like extra built in functions that make it a lot more palatable. Personally I think XSLT is an interesting language from a theory perspective, and it taugh
