Totally fair point, but I assumed this would break the constraint of remaining anonymous, and a meeting with the wrong person could start some unwanted chatter or even a report up the chain. Plus, in person organizing is a lot trickier duri

This has been pretty much my experience as well. The killer features are definitely the HA and the region-based sharding, but the backup situation and bugs are a real bummer. Not a total dealbreaker, but teetering right on the edge. We are

Agree that organization is probably the biggest impact. Perhaps start by anonymously raising awareness and rallying fellow Amazon employees via public blogs, social etc.

That’s calling out a lack of formal trials providing evidence, not discrediting the data that is emerging. Either way, they still recommend supplementing if deficient(which the numbers for people with IVD are quite high in most regions).

The hardware itself can certainly be a factor, but I don’t believe it’s the main issue as I run Linux on plenty of Apple hardware and it’s the same outcome.

Obviously they do care, as you can see by their investment in numerous attempts at in-house proprietary designs. They of course fucked up a few times, but you can’t say they haven’t tried. Otherwise they’d just be using some off the shelf k

As a loooooong time mac user recently using Linux as a daily driver again, it’s pretty bad. I would compare it to voice recognition: the difference between “90% there” and “95% there” is quite vast. In addition to multi finger gestures, the

Perhaps it was a reference to nature vs. nurture, and how they can both play a part in outcomes.

I don’t think this question came out right. I was not downplaying the severity of the current situation in any way, shape, or form. I was genuinely asking if there were actual tangible effects post-1918 pandemic. My cynical view is that no

Whoa CurveCP looks super interesting. Any resources you’d recommend beyond the main web site?

Are you implying that the 1918 pandemic resulted in some sort of lesson learned or a fundamental shift in culture?

I meant it in the sense that it turned into binary blobs that became less accessible for humans to manage, and a place where both Apple and 3rd party vendors started hiding magic stuff stored who-knows-where in a format that isn’t easy to g

I’m not sure that there were much better choices available at the time. IIRC property lists date back to NextStep. By the time stuff like JSON started popping up, plists were pervasive all throughout OS X. Typical legacy problem!

Once binary plists were introduced, it was only a matter of time before it became the macOS equivalent of windows registry. The fact that Apple is maintaining multiple parsers, and apparently added yet another in response to this bug, just

I skimmed it this time, and read it one of the 2 previous times it was on HN. There is some thoughtful technical information in the article. I admit it is hard for me to recover from click baity titles, and that probably lead to my choice o

Not to overreact, but this seems like a trashy hit piece. Vault checks all the boxes for the authors own “Ideal Secrets Management Solution Requirements“. If Vault’s only feature was its PKI, it would be underhyped in my opinion.

I doubt the people who don’t care, will care what some nerd says about their tech practices. Advocating for some rando normie to use Linux is arguably malpractice. Advocating for a software enthusiast / developer / privacy wonk et

Ahh you are completely correct. It caused issues for me as it added a new interface that my firewalls knew nothing about.

Oh this is awesome! A kernel space wireguard implementation and something like beehyve are the last 2 things I need to be able to start using fbsd a lot more.

“Parks still remain open for walking or running” This is what I suspected. I couldn’t imagine parks and rec or LAPD not shooing people away and putting up physical barriers if they were actually closed.

Hmm, probably either the reels I’ve tried this with, or using bad technique, but there is no way the ones I’ve tried could handle a second bake. They start looking semi-transparent in spots like scotch tape!

Hope you get it right on the first try! You don’t really get a second chance to bake it. The particles just start flying off the tape and leave a nice coating on the heads.

Another vote for Blink. I’ve used it for over a year with very few issues. They consistently push out bug fixes and add well thought out features. It’s a joy.
