Why is it magic? Wine has been around since forever. It's not like Valve wrote most of the underlying code proton runs on. And what's with all the valve/steam hype from people that should know better? At the end of the day yo

Yes, at the bottom of Tennyson Down before the Needles! A concrete rocket motor hard stand built into the side of the slope. Slept out on it for a lunar eclipse one summer night.

Have you taken a look at Syncthing? I use it to sync the desktop music directory (~300Gb) with the phone's microSD card. For external storage or cloud backups, I just use rsync. It's all pretty trivial once it's setup.

What are "stories"? What is the use case? If it's a low effort way to spam one's acquaintances, seems like a website/blog would be better for sharing images/text and also has the advantage of not being tied to

For your laptop, have you tried virtual desktops tied to keyboard shortcuts (like Alt-1, Alt-2, etc)? Also a drop down quake style terminal with multiple tabs provides the same rapid access functionality for the command line.

ESRI and the USGS provide WMS tilesets of USGS topographic quads. So a generic WMS viewer capability with the ability to save cached tiles offline in Gaia could provide that functionality without incurring additional bandwidth costs. Except

Gaia GPS on iphone requires a subscription to save USGS topographic tiles for offline use. That's an artificial limit on functionality using a publicly-funded resource.

Isn't Gaia's business model to charge for access to the maps we've already paid for with our taxes (such as USGS topographic quads)? So one shouldn't have stellar expectations over their acquisition.

Just to respond to a few of your more landlubberly comments: Naval battles are fought by aircraft carried on ships. Modern naval warfare is still about global power projected by ships. That hasn't changed since 1920. Global power proje
