Are you serious? Catalyst must be one of the worst, bloated and downright obtuse configuration software ever made.

Sure, but it's not like censoring radio and television will keep children from hearing and/or using them. In fact, I'd wager to say they don't even play a role. Back when I was a little kid, swearwords came from older children, and were oft

I still don't understand the words "fuck" and "shit" still being censored. Their shock value is long gone, isn't it? The song, and the video are great by the way, and the distribution a perfect example of why the internet works so well. It'

I would very much like it to be the other way around. If I buy a dead-tree book, give me the ebook along with it. I like reading books for their bookiness and the way I can quickly reference them by walking up to my bookcase and pulling one

The offering here in Europe is abysmal though. iBooks is just guthenberg (in NL at least) and most kindle ebooks go for between 10 and 20 euro. 20 euro for an ebook . So actually, there is some room for improvement ;)

This happened before, when the names of anonymous Wikileaks donors was posted on Wikileaks: http://www.wired.com/threatlevel/2009/02/wikileaks-force/ I'm sure that, even if documents incriminate Assange, they will be posted.

Well, that certainly sounds convenient at the very least. Two women in two towns, with Assange charged in absentia. Of course it could be true, but somehow that doesn't seem the most reasonable explanation.

So, something that's not immediatelly apparent upon reading this. How do I use it? Do I init it in an existing GIT repository and will the added bugs be synced along with my other changes? That would be awesome to replace my current method

I enjoyed reading this, as it is a nice story, but wccrawford has a point. Happiness is internal, not external. It's a choice and a habit, not a situation.

That looks really sweet! I've had a concept like this for years for the dutch market: Moeilijkedag.nl (tough day) but haven't had the time and or interest to built it. How did you implement it? Newfangled nodejs chat or something like it? :

I like the business model, even though it's heavily geared towards content creators. I have no problem putting a little money in and rewarding other content creators if I get something in return, too. It doesn't have to be equal. So far, I

It was funny, but obviously fake. No one except a sysadmin with access logs* could find out someone played Farmville 19.7 hours a week. It's just that I couldn't bring myself to point that out to people. Now, all we need to find out is how

The Diaspora guys, so far, haven't taken pre-orders and then had a half-year delay. But the thing most people are annoyed with were the lack of updates. Delays are o.k. if you know there is progress. Except we didn't know for a long, long t

Please see if you can combine something with http://hnhackers.com/ and/or http://www.hackernewsers.com/ It would be a shame if a third site comes along that does something related (even slightly) without working together!

The iPad has been out for two weeks here in the Netherlands, I bought it on release-date. I now read all my feeds on my iPad or iPhone. Reeder makes this awesome and syncs between the two. This frees up a lot of "check for new feeds" time

'losing weight', 'paying off your debts' and 'implementing your best ideas' are monolithic, far away, abstract goals...The kind of goals humans are bad at attaining. Get smaller, immediate goals and work from there. Stop drinking soda next

I started eating primal/paleo/low carb (I prefer the latter) after reading 'good calories, bad calories' by Gary Taubes. I've been linking people to these notes for a while now: http://higher-thought.net/complete-notes-to-good-calories-ba.
