I think easier to automate than to do by hand. All of this can be automated with sh, git & sed.

The french did a great job reforming measurements for weight, length, volume, etc with the metric system. Let's do the same for time - no more time zones, make the base unit a day and then it can be divided or multiplied in the 10s, 10

In Germany they are commonplace because the German system is the most intricate snake nest of paperwork and bureaucracy. Love the country, but jesus christ how could the system ever be navigated by one person, let alone a foreigner?

What's the premium of having a US passport? Canadian, UK, Scandinavian, Dutch, HK, Japanese, really whatever developed nations passport seems to be a better deal.

At least in Swedish they are called "Finlandssvenskar", which means Finland-swedes. That is why I count them as Swedes just like the Swedes living in Sweden, Norway, Denmark or anywhere else.

We who browse HN like the idea of self-driving cars, but does anyone have a nuanced perspective on their usefulness? I don't know much about AI compared to many here. It has been said that things which humans learn at very young age ar

I guess the difference is that it's users are not at the mercy of bankers (made of flesh, tradition and law) but instead predicable computer programs (made of logic & code).

Just FYI his name is Linus (just like Linus Torvalds). It's a common name for Swedes (Torvalds in from the Swedish minority in Finland). The Linux name is a play on Linus' name. The Å in Åkesson can be typed on a US keyboard by hi

Was just making a joke but thanks for your comment :). The joke was that it looks like a pentagram - but clearly it's just because the big European capitals are formed in that way. That just means Evil has been corrupting the elite of

While bitcoin is very small compared to banks and credit cards, at this point it is definitely cheaper to send bitcoin than to send Visa money. How it would work if that blockchain was scaled to the level of VocaLink I have no idea about.

If you're lazy (and if you're into FP you must be hehehe), just use that Clojure library. Calling Clojure code from Java is easy, and I'm sure it's not much harder from Scala.

How wonderful would the world be if we had a base 10 clock instead of 24? Let's make a day be 86400 seconds (already a SI standard), and then you can divide that into tenths, hundreds or whatever. One thousand of a day is 84.4 seconds,

Most bugs I make are about state being out of sync - in fact every bug that is not because I misunderstood a problem is because state is out of sync. In OOP programs, every object usually has it's own state, and it is updated all the t

I'd rather have immutable data, and no shared state in concurrent apps, but to each and their own. Just remember that there is no big conceptual difference between blocking and locking, which is what you end up doing when having shared
