People worry a lot about ageism here. I'm not seeing it be a problem in the real world. At every company I've been at, the most senior people are the ones with the most pull, with the strongest direction and advice. I've wor

Well, try this simple experiment. Tilt your head 90° and nose-breathe. Now grab your up-facing nostril and pull it wide open. You're probably taking in a lot more air now, with zero resistance. That's what these tubes do.

Exactly. It's not about snoring. It just keeps your nostril flared open so it doesn't choke the amount of air that can flow. And, much more comfortable and effective than those sticky strips.

You could kind of excuse American protesters for #2. I like to think that most Americans who sympathize with Palestine do so on the basic grounds of "everyone is entitled to personal freedom, dignity, and a place to call home."

Somewhat, but not entirely so. Managers can and should read git logs and bug tickets and design docs, and understand the architecture enough to have a reasonable sense of what the work entails. And managers should be engineers themselves

Correct. It's brutally hard to measure with precision , in part because the work we do is so multi-dimensional. But it's not too difficult to divide people into at least three groups, of low, high, everyone-else.

Obviously not. The goal is to measure people's results. It might occasionally take a relatively-long time to find a seemingly-simple solution. But if an engineer /always/ takes a long time to find every solution, and upon i

The entire body of CT has just a small handful of what anyone would consider theorems or lemmas. It’s mostly just stacked definitions. This is a set. This is a mapping. This is a set of sets. This is a mapping from elements to elements.
