Difference is you don't have to continuously maintain a movie after release (except probably multiple sequels) You still have to maintain software after release, and it's forever.

As an alternative I highly recommend Fork, a life/time saver when working in Windows, it's a high quality (and native) Git GUI client. Guitar is also good too, and are thankfully both native! [0] Fork - https://fork.dev

Is there any platform in which a service doesn't go down? I hesitate to run a web app in which an outage could happen on a regular occurrence or at moment's notice. Any strategies?

It's worth noting that Mozilla is not a very good privacy advocate since they are a puppet to Google, a surveillance capitalist. This fancy looking site is pretty unhelpful, and also has sinister tracking analytics which does not help

Days ago I was concerned about the recent outages of GCP. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=22707876 This confirms my suspicions and my concerns still persist when choosing GCP

This is extremely concerning as somebody looking to move or build on top of GCP for the long term. I wonder why anyone would choose GCP if outages are occurring on a regular basis.

Zoom or Google Hangouts/Meet is your best bet. I have not seen anything better than these unfortunately in the open source world that is as accessible or easy to use as those two.

I would prefer not having to use VC money to fund such an endeavour. This model needs to stop, maybe a change to a bootstrapped model + pay to use is the way to go.

I agree that the masses use this, but I'm not sure that you can compare email to WhatsApp, maybe a fair comparison would be _instant_ messengers. Also open source?, I doubt it.
