That's a good point and when I was reading the article I actually predicted that the "Learn More" button would win because it was the least committal but I never drew the connection between that and volunteer signups. A few theories: 1) May

Is it wrong for me to be a little startled by that conversion rate? I wouldn't have expected anything that high. It depends on how much of a commitment they're asking from volunteers. If you've already signed up on the website it's not m

Interesting. I wonder would the cars in this video be significantly different than cars in the US as I have a hard time keeping my car that slow regardless of the road I'm on?

By the way, .?123 is an odd label. You can already type . and ? from the main keyboard. Minor Note: This is a holdover from the iPhone keyboard which has no punctuation marks on the main letter keyboard. I'm not sure whether it's better

It could also mean that, knowing that engraved products are harder to sell, and knowing that an iPod is likely to be engraved a criminal will be less likely to steal any iPod, as opposed to say a GPS that could be more easily sold.

Two thoughts: 1) If you've already read a comment you've already read it regardless of where you read it, and if the comments are exactly the same they are probably not terribly context sensitive. 2) I believe that if a submitted comment

That's all I could tell. The main page doesn't say anything about a pre-order (that I could tell anyway) and I'm not sure if I trust them when they say they are "close to shipping" as they've been close to shipping for a year now. Thank

They use the back of he hand on more private areas so that the fingers are facing outwards. The idea is to prevent any kind of grabbing: perceived, actual, accidental, intentional, whatever. Edit: iPod typos

I didn't notice it and I can't be sure, but short-term outages on HN are usually because pg reboots the server. http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1274058

Chicago had a similar problem when they started requiring that taxi's accept credit cards at no extra charge. When someone tried to pay their fare with a credit card a cab driver who didn't want to pay the service fee would either say that

Interesting. For whatever reason it didn't even occur to me that traffic lights would still have a "hard-wired" circuit available to operate the lights. I'm a Computer/Electrical but I tend to think in terms of coding rather than being ab

Do you mind explaining? I can't tell if this is meant as a joke or a serious counter-argument. At any rate I assume there is some sort of firmware controlling the lights [edit: guess not, read juson's comment below], monitoring the button

"almost nothing" would still equate to sever thousand dollars, probably over $100k. Not to mention future costs, a sticker would probably need to be replaced after a year at most, and a sign would cost significantly more. If you decide to

I think that the best system is probably a non-partisan primary followed by a runoff election between the top 2 or 3. I feel like this would help make more center of the aisle candidates more successful in the primaries. Part of the proble

Probably should put snowy winters under cons too. I'm from Chicago and quite frankly don't think that I could live somewhere without a real winter but I'm fairly certain the rest of the country thinks we're nuts.

In Illinois at least employers are required to allow employees to take two paid hours off at the beginning or end of their shift to vote. Also there's "no excuse" absentee vote by mail and early voting available throughout the state.
