Why is Firefox slower on a Mac? I know Safari is (supposedly) faster than a lot of the other options, but I haven’t seen anything about Apple slowing down other browsers on Macs[0]. [0] I know they force all browsers to use the same webkit

I obviously can’t speak for the country as a whole, but at least in Milwaukee the schools in those areas are often fine to great, it’s the “school report cards” that are terrible. The number one predictor of a school’s rating is the average

Even where there's good sidewalks people in wheelchairs often just "roll down the middle of the street." It's smoother, easier to be seen (.˙. safer) and you're less likely to get blocked by an unexpected obstacle.

Even the "improved" sidewalks are barely useful there. Based on my experience (in a very different neighborhood where walking is the default way to get around) I'd be shocked if someone in a wheelchair chose the sidewalk ove

That definitely varies. In my area the city just takes your house, evicts you, and auctions the property.

That may be true generally - I have no idea - but it definitely isn’t in Illinois. The tolls stay in the system and don’t support any non-tolled roads. If anything the subsidies go the other way, since cities will pay to have a ramp built

I was wondering why they specified as well. My guess: the toll roads have much less traffic (for their size) than the free ones. I know that by me the toll is usually worth it if you value your time at all since the dedicated funding gives

No? The oil situation is happening because producers are contractually obligated to pump (significantly) more oil than there is market demand for and it is hard to store or ramp down production of oil. Uber rides have none of those qualitie

I paid $0.97 at a Costco in Wisconsin the other day. That said, I’m not sure why it was so cheap there. The going rate at other stations was about $1.39 and they’re usually closer together than that.

There are two issues: 1. Foxconn claims that the targets have been met, but the empty buildings obviously make some petiole suspicious. 2. There was also a lot of subsidies and government spending based on the deal that is not tied to the t

I think it varies by country. In the US it’s 2 years on top of the 1 year included warranty, so 3 total. You mention a mandatory 1 year so I assume you’re non-US and I don’t know what it would be for you.

I hate this article. It’s an important issue - the IRS not having the resources to review complex tax returns - but it’s hard to read past the authors efforts to build outrage around unfairness and actually understand it. He claims througho

I absolutely would. One of the best things we can do for poor people - and for the economy as a whole - is getting them physical access to better jobs. If people are trapped in an economically dead area the few grand it would take to supp

DuskStar is pretty close. Anti-fragile describes systems that improve from disorder. Robust describes ones that resist disorder. The ceramic plate is robust: it’s very strong, and unlikely to break when things go wrong (e.g. it gets dropped

The “time period specified” on your GP was circa 1970. The car mentioned came out in 1974. “Well after the time period specified” seems like a stretch.

Tone aside, there's a difference between being skeptical of what you read and actively accusing specific people of ethical violations based on that skepticism.

That actually was about as close to free as it gets. At least it was for the similar money (same program) that Wisconsin turned down. In Wisconsin’s case it was about $800MM with no local match needed and the catch was committing to running

In freezing climates household heating with natural gas is substantially cheaper than electric. However, that’s probably not a problem for Berkeley, and the infrastructure costs alone probably justify avoiding natural gas hookups.

True, but it sounds like the base Model 3 also got a price cut. So, if you’re in the market for a “cheap” electric car, you have a price cut. If you’re looking for a high end one, you have a price cut. It’s only if you’re looking for a “che
