My wording may have been unclear in retrospect- I meant that I would not take a position in a firm that did not have market fit unless it was for whole percentage points. If they have market fit, it's a different story.

I feel the same- I did not have a decent outcome, aside from being able to say I built all of this stuff, essentially myself, with our team eventually only being 5 devs total. I would say that I will not ever work again for a company that d

TBH, I don't feel we really got paid until about 2012 or so- or at least it did not reach me (on the east coast around NYC) until then. I spent the first ten years of my career lamenting my choice, for the amount of effort, both mental

I disagree here- The Palm Treo was arguably the first smart phone, limited as it may have been. I had a 650 from around 2005 or so, and I actually kept that thing going until 2009 when I got an IPhone 3GS. The Treos and "regular"

For me it was that tmux worked out of the box the way I spent many hours getting screen to work the way I wanted. And then from there, just in general the docs were better, it was updated more often, and in general was a bit less obscure in

Have you looked into backing up into the cloud? I used to do this way back in the day, but by using AWS I get legit offsite storage. Its really cheap if you use glacier, and I was actually looking this week, and there is now an even cheaper

Honest question- why does one choose to harvest emails for something like this vs just putting ads on the page? I have seen this model used for several ebooks, but it seems like long term its much more viable to just make the content widely

Tbh, in a remote company, I would call this an "on-site" even if you don't have a home office to go to. My previous company, we did the fully remote thing pre-pandemic and had a good culture, but I found meeting up once a qua

Interestingly I am in Hawaii right now and hiked about 7 miles on Mauna Loa. It's part of a national park and it's massive- it takes about an hour to drive from one end to the other. I learned yesterday a volcano is more of a comp

what really exists in phreaking? I used to be interested in the mid-late 90s, but it seems it was all but dead by 2000 or so. Asterix seemed to keep things interesting for a bit, but I haven't heard about that in years.

If this is a recession, its not one I am feeling. 2008, the .com bust, those were recessions that everyone felt acutely. Unemployment is still at record lows. If the GDP dial isn't where people would like it to be then fine, but overal
