Inevitably when GDPR comes up, there are always HN commenters talking disparagingly about the "nanny state" in Europe. However, I'll take some annoying cookie banners over an ad tech company scanning my face any day of the we

Anyone interested in OAuth 2/OpenID connect on mobile should absolutely watch Eran Hammer‘s (one of the creators if the OAuth 2 spec) talk on the subject [0]. He contests both the “security” and “user trust” claims made in this article

It seems like eBay wants it both ways. They want to have a huge user base with low friction to get started, but they also don't want fraudulent players. Instead of doing KYC (know your customer) like many financial services, they'

Not a stupid question. These products tend to offer a lot more functionality and flexibility in terms of how you consume your data. Different analysis possibilities, fancy ML models, custom dashboards, etc. Also more control over how the da

I'm not sure I've seen a single person suggesting that. People want change not an abolishment of policing as a concept.

I loved the Five Dysfunctions of a Team. However, the advice in that book requires the main boss to be fully committed to fixing the dysfunctions and to convince their team to get onboard (or fire them if it’s not possible). Not sure how li

That’s a fair point. I guess my point is that even with direction, if I’m not surrounded by a great team, I’m probably not going to be enjoying my job. Both of these things for me are more important than the specific problem I’m solving or

For me, as important as any of these factors is “who are you building it with”. Great teammates and a great manager can go a really long way towards job satisfaction.

What's wrong with https://github.com/search ? After you search on the left there's a link that says "Code".

30 days is the maximum time allowed under GDPR. Quite typical to tell people it might take up to 30 days (though it practice I've found it rarely does).

I think there is a way to do it, that was the peeking I referred to. But it's not how it works out of the box. I think the abstraction is somewhat useful if your GraphQL queries vary tremendously (one device asks for the user along wit

No, it can't because it's actually making two separate queries. For example, let's say we're fetching classified ads with the users that posted them. First your GraphQL resolvers would fetch the ads (and you won't k

We’ve been using data loader a lot and it’s working ok. We were very careful to dump all sql queries our app was making per request to ensure we were not making more queries than necessary. One thing I will say as we do make a lot of “IN” q
