Sad to see your comment downvoted. You'd think iOS device and Mac fans would understand well the sentiment of 'not wanting to be a second-class citizen'. Frame the discussion around Material design in iOS apps, Electron apps

Open plan offices do have some advantages: - being able to put more employees in the space AKA being able to scale efficiently as the company grows - easily able to group related employees together (perhaps on a per project basis) - ad-hoc

Meetups. Conferences. Hackathons. A really good way to meet a lot of developers is to organise a meetup.

Find new (additional) friends who like to do sociable things. Meetup is a good place to find people like this. If you like a place which has its own subreddit (eg r/losangeles etc), you may find people who regularly do sociable stuff.

Thanks for taking the time to post all those informative links. Usually these kinds of discussions end up being people expressing what they like or dislike about the re-brand. I'd suggest that a re-brand that didn't provoke a stro

A space filled with laptop users gives off a work vibe, and a somewhat anti-social vibe too, regardless of what they are actually doing on their machines.

Would you consider it pretentious for a library to ask noisy guests to leave? If someone wants to run and maintain a social space, they have every right to prevent it from becoming a cheap office or work space. I imagine most coffee shop an

It's more a case of too many laptop users in a space, transform what was meant to be a social space into a work space. It changes the vibe and the mood.

It is bullshit, but unfortunately mental health is an area that receives little funding. In a world where it feels like policy makers seem to only care about the bottom line, perhaps making an economic argument might help move the needle on

I think people could be persuaded to overlook the negative Silicon Valley sentiment if they believed the candidate knew how to make money and do good deals and improve their lot in life. Pretty much the "Yeah but..." argument I ha

Or maybe it's because people have valid concerns about little things like privacy, ethics, sexism, and the longer term effects of disruption that places more money and power into the hands of companies that are more than willing to ove

To be fair to Evan Spiegel and Snap, almost no-one was interested in doing versions of their apps for Windows Phone. Windows Phone turned up late to the party - third or fourth horse (remember Blackberry?) in an already competitive two hors

True story: was once asked by the co-founder of a company to sabotage the project I was working on. "Drive a horse and cart through it" were his precise words. So for my team, the deliverable was working software. The co-founder w

Methodologies are a trap. The problem with any methodology is they tend to lead people to stop thinking about the context they are operating in. "The methodology says X, we should do X, why oh why aren't we doing X?" is a fam
