An alternative point of view, even for those entering the industry: just don't sign a contract with a non-compete clause. At some point in your career you are going to have to negotiate over terms in your contract. Best to get practice

I look forward to seeing this being integrated into every Electron app.

I don't think Swift was designed to address the problems of writing mobile apps in Objective-C. It seems more like a compiler/language developer's idea of what a good modern language should be.

What kind of programmer hasn't learnt from and embraced the fact that programmers are human and that humans make mistakes?

Would love to hear some concrete details about this - I dont doubt you, but I think it would be helpful to have the details. Would you say you were able to write less code (perhaps reuse more code)? Were the productivity savings mostly on t

- Look at the market for web development jobs. - Look at the kind of skills that are being asked for. - Perhaps talk to a recruiter to see what sort of skills are in demand. - Ask someone experienced for feedback on your CV, portfolio and&#

Personally I think its nice to see this kind of creation tool decoupled from a social network. I am hoping it can take Vine like videos, which I can keep and redistribute in a method of my own choosing.

I have a directory of unpublished blog posts on my hard drive. I also am writing and publishing (and not publicising yet) a series of blog posts about developing software. When I have enough posts written I might cross-publish them onto Med

I would upvote your comment multiple times if I could - compassion is something that I see expressed all too rarely online. I remember reading an interview with a psychologist who worked at a clinic dealing with videogames addiction in the

The fact John Gruber created Markdown is completely unrelated to the issue of the quality and/or bias of his blog. Also I don't see anything in the post you replied to that shows any disrespect to John.

So much of the story and motivation around FirefoxOS seemed to be: "we want to take web browser technology and build a smartphone around it." Or interpreted another way: "Our agenda is to take technology X and apply it to a p

I think I would do the following: - set up a web page with some minimal and familiar interactions. - with the adult student, visit that webpage and let them use it. - then bring up the browser's web dev tools and show them some ways th

Swift changes are harmful if you are building a product with a budget. I don't have any problem with the fact Swift is churning. I think its healthy for the language to be improved. I think it's great that there is so much open

I generally use the Pomodoro technique (25 mins of focussed effort, 5 min break, repeat). One thing I find useful to stay focussed, is when a distracting idea comes to mind is to simply write it down somewhere, so I can look into it later.

So thats two pretty major bugs in iOS9.3 (the failing upgrade process for older hardware is the other big issue - and Apple are getting lots of support calls about it). I really have to wonder what has happened to Apple's Quality Contr

And there are few compelling reasons to develop sophisticated iPad apps anymore. App prices are low, the platform is buggy, and building a good iPad app is a more complex and expensive endeavour than building an iPhone app.
