Likewise, Git has been steadily improving on the user interface front for years. It's much better than 1.0 was, but it's still not the easiest DVCS to learn. In my experience, saving a little on runtime doesn't make up for

I’m simply going off what the article says. If it was “toxic” before and still managed to decline, that sounds even worse!

Fair point. I’m not sure if they did, or simply believed the benefits (financial and otherwise) of being bought outweighed the loss of company culture. They at least seemed to, in my experience. JWZ — or maybe Spolsky — wrote about (a more

Yes. Organizing doesn't mean you fire everybody and hire new pro-union workers. It's the same people. They're just given a more direct power structure for dealing with management. When you take people who are already vocal

An old friend of mine who was very comfortable with speaking told me it was acting that helped him. You get to practice saying someone else's words, until you're ready to use your own.

That won't help you escape Catalyst bugs, except that you won't be able to run any Catalyst apps. But you can just stop running Catalyst apps, now, without reinstalling your OS.

This is using Catalyst, right? UIKeyCommand is a UIKit name, not an AppKit one. And Catalyst doesn't exist prior to Catalina. They've added a whole other (temporary?) operating system. It's perhaps not surprising this has

The domain should match your organization (or name), not your product. Honda doesn't have civic.com or accord.com, and should vectra.com point to the Hewlett-Packard PC or the Winnebago RV? (It's neither.) As for being able to g

Back when I looked at it, at least, Mercurial had the strangest and most non-idiomatic Python I'd ever seen. It doesn't surprise me it's been trouble to upgrade. Mercurial's curious implementation is also the reason I g

I think the point is to get native behavior, you need to use the native functionality. When you try to emulate it, you'll always be missing something. We see this in every corner of Firefox: the text editing, the toolbar, the context

Is this still not common? I have an Apple Cinema Display from 15 years ago and it has both hardware brightness controls (on the right edge), and software brightness control (keyboard f-keys, labeled as such on Apple keyboards).

I think Tcl strings aren't exactly what Perlis was talking about. First, the language knows how they're used, so there's a JIT (or whatever) behind the scenes eliminating the literal deserialize-process-serialize pattern you

Had this been implemented as a web service, half of the crowd would be asking for it to be an open-source program, so they could run it locally, for speed and flexibility and security. It was implemented as an open-source program, so hal

I'd be more enthusiastic about this if it were about more than just 2FA. That's not the end-all-be-all of website security, and there's sites here which get the "green checkmark" of approval but I'm suspicious

You should line up the free and paid features, perhaps in a table. I can't glance at a list of 8 items and a list of 10 items and distinguish what changed between them, so I'm not sure what I'd be paying for.

Depends on the CPU. The G5 didn't support little-endian mode. VirtualPC used this for x86 emulation, which is why it didn't run on G5 Macs.

Being a best-seller does not make it fundamental. If anything, that suggests to me that it is not. "Philosophy for Dummies" far outsells Plato.
