Anecdotal evidence as an Asian male: way back when I was in high school, I applied to a particular brand name university in the US. In my class, I had the best or second best admissions profile. The rest weren't really even close. I w

These are interesting "security flaws," given the level of access an attacker needs to exploit these. I wonder what (other) security professionals have to say about this white paper.

I find it curious that you are trying to define a job based on credentials, instead of defining it based on what the job entails.

This isn't surprising. Intel has established a pattern of BS'ing when confronted with their mistakes / wrongdoings. Do they think their consumers aren't smart enough to see through it? I was already leaning towards AMD&#

That may sound nice to some people on paper, but the reality is that it creates a negative feedback loop. Consider the following review of the company from a senior software engineer. This review is not unique in its opinion: I worked at Ne

I was mostly self-taught when I entered the industry. Years later, I now work for one of the bigger companies in Silicon Valley. I want to preface this by saying that you do not need to be a CS expert to get started in software engineerin

I don't doubt the quality of GT, but rankings, especially the worldwide variety, are absurd at their face, and they are part of this self-destroying system that is causing runaway education costs.

If AZ is truly superior to Stockfish, why was Stockfish given an amount of RAM that could only be considered standard for the 1990s?

There is a well known delineation between applied math and pure math. It seems that such a convention has yet to be established for CS.

For those who are anti net neutrality or "on the fence," if you are in tech, keep in mind that the removal of nn will likely put downward pressure on your compensation.

I've witnessed the imperfection of using the brand name of a degree as a measure of ability. Numerous times throughout my career as an engineer, I've seen someone from [INSERT WELL-KNOWN DEGREE HERE] outperformed by [INSERT LESSER

The future of lower-tier universities is bleak. Once MOOCs have been refined, top-ranked schools will dominate market share, and if they play it right, will make a lot of money. Who would rather take classes at a run-of-the-mill state sch

I disagree. The things you say may have been true decades ago, but are not entirely accurate today. The US's banking industry's reputation took a big hit in 2008, and it has become increasingly common for top university students t

Have you actually used Typescript? It's definitely better than Python, and I'd personally prefer it to Haskell / Livescript. I would love to hear what people actually think the "flaws" are with ES6 Javascript and Ty

Typescript is GREAT. Strict null-checking eliminates the dreaded null-pointer exception. It enables type-safe mixins. It allows for mapped types. Literal types, especially string literal types, makes it so easy to work with pre-existing JS

Javascript has taken a quantum leap with es6, and if you look at what Typescript and Flow are doing, another quantum leap in that dimension. C# is great, but I think the latter, especially Typescript, bring the Javascript community into the

As someone who went to an "elite" institution, I wonder why all education can't be elite. In the past, there were physical limitations -- only so many students could fit in a lecture hall, on a campus etc. So the optimal arra
