Did apple actually do that? Do you have a source for Apple licensing tech from Ireland?

Several of the devs tweeted at in the article (camposanto and klei at the very least) are being tweeted at over games which have traditional (ie non microtransaction based) business models.

They literally said it was new in the 8th paragraph in the link, consistent with the patch notice from that release. The second paragraph plainly says they have never engaged in planned obsolescence. As a business they’d never make so blunt

I rather like AirPods, but ymmv if they fit your ears.

Sure, but are you wearing IEMs while running? Sound isolation isn’t a virtue in that case.

by kec 9y ago
Do you really care about audio quality that much when you’re out running? You’re not exactly in an ideal listening environment, and whatever bud type headphones you’re wearing won’t be able to accurately reproduce bass anyway.

They can't legally put hidden cameras in their toilet stalls or hotel rooms, why would they be able to legally put systems that can obtain a nude image of someone without their consent on the casino floor?

After having an amazon delivery driver aggressively harass me for the door key code to my apartment rather than just use the intercom I lost all faith in their delivery service.

lower voltage means more transmission losses as well as heavier/more expensive cabling to deliver the same power.

Amperage kills you, but it takes voltage to get to your heart first. 5VDC across your body's resistance (somewhere around 1MΩ in normal conditions) is nowhere near enough current to feel, let alone harm you.

Charging cables are usb2.0 and power delivery only, take a peek inside the end and you can see all the missing pins.

What about commands which only take a single file as input? Is xargs -n1 noticeably faster than -exec? (And if it is, is that actually worth it for clarity's sake?)

Manually managing your radio state is almost certainly going to have a net negative impact on your battery life. Your smartphone screen uses several orders of magnitude more energy lighting up than btle and wifi use while idle.

How is being ~80% under quota not news? Such a large miss means that either Tesla is being unrealistically optimistic about their production capability, or they have serious production problems.

The absurd cost of living is due to an illiquid housing market because of prop 13. Adding more housing just kicks the can down the road a decade or two.

The problem isn’t trash, it’s clearcutting and soil erosion. Neither can be quickly or easily fixed, erosion especially isn’t going to be repaired without intervention.

Deterrent for others. Weed farming is lucrative, even large fines wouldn’t be a large deterrant.

Some things can't be easily fixed. It can take years or even decades to restore damaged wilderness to something approaching its natural state.

LA hasn't seen anything like the VC / tech boom that the bay area is currently in. Prop 13 reduces liquidity, but that doesn't automatically have an outsized effect on prices. It's only when a market is illiquid and th

well yes, but what problem are you actually solving by adding more units? Yes, you're adding more people, but due to larger market effects you're not actually making the area any more affordable....

by kec 9y ago
How does any of that help when the real issue is the distorting effect of prop 13 on the market? Insane housing prices are being driven by an illiquid market, adding more housing isn't going to change that.

What planned obsolescence? The iPhone 4s received 5 years of software updates, ending years after sales ended for that model. Same with the iPhone 5. The 5s is 5 years and going strong. I don't know of any android device which receives
