It’s not mentioned in the Wikipedia entry, but this is also present in Margaret Atwood’s excellent book series, Maddaddam.

This idea keeps coming up but the reality is that the per-person payouts would add up to such a small amount that it wouldn’t justify the administrative costs of implementing the program, from both a payout and an enforcement perspective. I

Grinberg is great. The flask mega tutorial taught me so much and I’ve recommended it so many times.

This is awesome. And it has an RSS feed! Would be cool to publish multiple feeds corresponding to each integer significance threshold. Like 6+, 7+ etc Update: turns out the RSS feed doesn’t work like I expected. I wanted it to publish each

For my company, compute is over 80% of the cost, so we would come out much worse on this even if storage dropped to zero.

I said 'many' because 'everyone who uses reserved capacity instead of on-demand pricing' was too long for a headline.

Definitely. But in our case, compute makes up more than 80% of costs, even though we store a large amount of data. I suspect most big customers will come out much worse from this.

Not lots but I’ve gotten it a few times. There seems to be no way to prevent it. Every time I send a detailed report to Google. No idea whether anyone sees them.

Almost 43,000 people died in car-related deaths in the US in 2021 (and millions more worldwide). I hope we can stop focusing on the small number of deaths from this one car company that has self-driving features. Relevant: https:/
