I don't think the world really works like that. Hearing an elevator pitch has a very different impact from reading a short-form business proposal. And of course the efficiency of the written word is not absolute; in lively discussions

GP was talking about energy independence. They use domestic coal not imported coal, so the goal of energy independence is still achieved.

Part of the reason for the overwhelming praise is because this is a “Show HN” thread[0]. People liked the amount of effort put in. Keyboards are highly personal anyways, so I wouldn’t be surprised that an average person would disagree with

No I think you misunderstood GP’s comment. The idea (which I personally don’t agree with) was that Google didn’t have to have the best models; it just needed to have the best compute infrastructure, i.e. having TPUs and the software stack t

This might be some kind of a weird requirement for a piece of art, but I would literally never expect a website to center a div according to the browser window instead of the viewport. It just looks wrong and feels wrong.

Every time I see this kind of pet project I see whether they are addressing any actual issue of React or whether they don’t like React merely because it is popular. I especially look at whether they do state management or VDOM diffing diffe

I’m not sure your comment makes sense. Are you implying the helicopter crew are unqualified inexperienced people? But these people weren’t trying to land at the commercial airport.

I spent three and a half hours reading the report. It’s well worth a read. It’s scary; I was aware of the Swiss cheese analogy in aviation safety, so it was scary to read how so many people were raising red flags, but due to either ignoranc

Requiring the implementation of a Go interface is less powerful than requiring a trait. It reminded me of early years of Rust where people saw traits and asked, well Java had interfaces for many decades, what’s the innovation?

That’s how the modern way of designing products works. 90% of use cases is enough. YAGNI. The R&D needed for the last 10% is not worth its marginal return. There is no ambition, no perfectionism, no maniac attention to detail any more.

No. You are presupposing a particular usage of a car and imposing that on a potential buyer. I take the train or bike to work, so for me my car is only for weekend trips. That’s why I bought the fastest-charging car available at that time.

Are you talking about the unveiling of Swift or SwiftUI? My recollection was that some people hated ObjC and wanted a more modern language. Apple gave them Swift. But I don’t recall people hating AppKit (maybe I wasn’t remembering correctly

You think it’s done only because you are not ambitious enough. And neither is Tesla. A Hyundai charges faster than a Tesla. Chinese cars from several brands are getting five-minute charging times. If you think that’s a straw man I don’t kno

Yes it is precisely Go’s shortcomings that would require typical use of generics to also require reflection most of the time. You would want Rust traits (or Haskell type classes) or C++ style type traits and then the need for reflection is

Your understanding is quite incomplete. Wait till you think about the mapping operation for functions. Then there’s no loop, just function composition.

The way I see it there is a bifurcation here: some people value convenience so they just use their regular credit card to pay per trip with no discounts; others don’t mind the mental overhead of getting a transit card, understanding the far
