Morse code (aka continuous wave/CW) is in very common use in amateur (ham) radio, predominantly in CW Contesting [0], DXing, and low power (QRP) and portable operations (like parks on the air/POTA, summits on the air/SOTA [1]

I typically watch at 1.75x speed, sometimes 2x. Same (sometimes faster) for podcasts. Of course there’s a one sentence bottom line to a majority of YouTube content, but I appreciate the artform, adjacent color commentary, and evidence-based

UK has weird laws. Airborne operation of amateur radio is prohibited in the UK. Yemen and NK ban amateur radio outright, with very few exceptions for things like DXpeditions or royalty. No other countries specifically call out a prohibition

As a 14 year old I got into amateur radio and I was totally infatuated. That carried on through college. My ham radio experiences and learning helped me decide to get into electrical engineering where I've been blessed with opportunity

In “The Oldest Cure In The World” (by Steve Hendricks) I’m reading about researchers who discovered that mice lived to be the human equivalent of 120+ years old just by fasting them. https://www.nih.gov/news-events/nih-

IME/O, hams and LDS alike tend to go above board when setting up infrastructure like this, and I feel they'd be quite public about their existence. Some ham radio repeaters atop high-rise buildings I know of are kind of sketchy

A VNA still doesn’t tell you range an antenna gives over another (ie gain). For that, a legit antenna test range is necessary, or a hike out in the woods works too.

Amateur radio is an amazing sandbox for radio science. It has worldwide frequency allocations from 2200m (136kHz) all the way up to visible light, including an allocation on the 160m (1.8MHz) band that behaves almost identically to the AM b

In my case, my wife complained of my snoring. I also have been tracking my sleep every night since like 2013 with Sleep Cycle, which records snoring. I never snored, until last December. It recorded me snoring 20-30 min per night, which is

iPhone satellite SOS communicates to a constellation of 24 GlobalStar Gen 2 Low Earth Orbit satellites, orbiting somewhere between 800 and 1000mi[0]. This is the same satellite system that SPOT messengers talk to (which are also tiny device

As a ham radio evangelist, I'm slightly sad that our radio service has become a bit more irrelevant as a backcountry backup or emergency comms solution, thanks to this, the SPOT/inreach messager, and general LEO satellite broadban
