Why would there be more eyestrain working on a smaller device (assuming the same font size)? I don't feel more eyestrain when I use my iPad for half a day at a stretch than I do my Mac. Regarding your point about who wants to work on a

I'm personally in the big screen camp as well, having recently bought an iMac 27. When I used a laptop, it was a 15-inch. But others prefer smaller screens, even getting their work done on a tablet. I do think there's demand for t

Interesting. I do think there's demand for smaller devices. For example, some people get their work done on a tablet.

I haven't played Pokemon Go, but it's fine for apps to use their own custom theme. What's not fine is to use one OS's theme on another OS, like an Android app on WP. I see where you're coming from when you say that

Besides, Astoria will lead to a second-rate UX for Windows Phone (WP) as Android apps on WP are coded as per Android UX guidelines, not WP UX guidelines. If Microsoft is building a framework, I'd expect it to provide a great UX for the

Is packet loss in the real world random or correlated? TCP's head-of-line blocking problem goes away if packet loss turns out to be correlated — lose a packet belonging to one stream within the connection, and you're going to lose

Since the article spends quite a bit of time talking about icons, let me focus on that, too. I think the old icons had too much detail in them to be visible at typical icon sizes. They ended up looking cluttered and over-designed. The new i

Great point, but I've had the opposite reaction — to me the old one says that someone's else junk is already in there (the scribbles) while the white blank page is a blank canvas, in the good sense of the term. It's inviting.

I agree with that, but you haven't given any information or insight to substantiate your claim that the Apple car will be the next iPhone. Merely saying "it will be awesome!" doesn't convince anyone :)

My petrol car has a long range. I don't think anyone will be impressed by a car with a long range.

Or entitle people to take a quarter or two off between projects, at loss of pay. Not, "the manager and HR may or may not approve", but as a matter of course. That gives you more or less what you want, that too in a form where you

I concur with rpgmaker that it's bullshit to say that the existing technology "blows". Tell me exactly how an Apple car will be better than my existing petrol-powered car. Not in an abstract sense, for me. With the iPhone, we

At least, in a memory-safe language, you'll get an IndexOutOfBoundsException rather than corrupting memory, which can be used as an attack.

Sure, the moderators may end up looking one-sided, but it sends a clear signal as to what kind of behaviour is not tolerated. The other members can adjust to the new normal, and some will leave. Either way, you've cleaned up the site t

Name-calling was an example of bad behaviour you want to ban. I'm sure we can think of other, worse, types of behaviour. Whatever it is, find the most egregious offenders, and ban them.

I have a theory — to clean up a site, find and expel the most egregious offenders, like the people who engage in repeated name-calling ("You are a fucking asshole!") as opposed to constructive discussion. You can't police eve

While I understand and agree with what you said, HTTP 2 still runs on top of TCP, which means that when you lose a packet, subsequent packets belonging to other responses can't be delivered to the application layer, even though there&#

The machines are controlled by humans, and will be, unless and until AI takes over the world. So how can you possibly have a system where humans can't decide things? I would still view it as less corrupt than traditional finance, where

Agreed. If I have to prepare for an interview, that means that the interview isn't testing what I use every day in my work, which makes it a bad interview process. I could do something more useful with that time, and I no longer feel l

Many apps do have diseconomies of scope — they have too many features, and are therefore hard to use. And the company spent more resources to build a more featureful app, like hiring more people, but this extra investment has had a negative

Does it matter in practice whether the diseconomies are due to "software" or "design"? Are you offering a solution to the problem the author outlines?
