The mac is trying it‘s best to catch up. Should you build your app with AppKit, SwiftUI or UIKit+Catalyst "Optimized for macOS"? I can‘t tell you. Thankfully It‘s still a relatively straightforward process to create and compile an

Yep. Getting started on the web platform is honestly still a marvel to me and unmatched after decades. Sure you can use babel/webpack/vite whatever, but you can also still create a text file called app.html, type your little progr

This is not a convincing argument. Just because I think something should be improved, doesn‘t mean I should applaud any and all attempts to improve it. If my city has a hideous, impractical train station and you just take a wrecking ball to

It‘s a nice theory, but… what would that be? I can‘t really think of much. Sure a lot of us make money as web2 developers but we could switch to web3 without much issue. It wouldn‘t have a serious financial impact. The people who are heavil

FYI in Safari desktop, which supports web push, you can turn deny all requests. The same thing works for the other permission types as well.

At the project level maybe. At the AWS level, that‘s ridiculous. A lot of services can live with one major outage a year, but not once a month. Completely failing when their region goes down is reasonable.

Check out vivenu [0]. I‘m not sure what their data offering includes because I haven‘t actually tried their product, but it sounds like they are thinking in a similar direction to you. [0] https://vivenu.com

I fully believe Apple is going to release an AR/MR product just based on the continued investment in ARKit, an iOS technology that just about no one uses. Makes a lot of sense they would start at pass through video, they already have a

For what it's worth, this is addressed in 2.1, which is only out in beta. Maybe should have been there from the start.

It‘s possible in the mac Music app. On iOS, it requires an app like that. Before I knew about Marvis, I had build out a system to navigate album playlist via Shortcuts.

Oh that's unfortunate. I remember when you used to be able to share your whole iTunes library with people over the network, possibly even over the internet?

Wow, that sounds super annoying. What version of macOS did you upgrade from? As long as Music remains the only Mac app with "OK" and "Cancel" buttons on the Preferences window, iTunes lives!

That sounds like a situation iTunes/Apple Music is completely unfit for. I think foobar2000 was able to manage that kind of thing? You gotta see that it's a niche situation, not something that even most people who seriously care a

I don't think it's fair to say that it only works for simple library situations. I happily tend to a large and intricate library with it. You just need to give up on real files and folders. If you want the fusion of library focus

This setting is going to change your life (maybe hyperbole...). It's one of the things that makes me really appreciate Apple Music. With this setting, and an interface that can group playlists by album and filter them by artist, you ca

Since all the apps are just called "Music" anyway (remember the iPod app?) I think it's a difficult distinction to make. It's the Music app by Apple, which has an optional subscription that is also called "Apple Mus

No. Just drag a matched track out of the music app or import it in various iOS apps, it's a DRM free AAC file.

I would love to see more of this. Since this is the "did you know Apple Music actually..." thread: You can at least browse by record label nowadays and it's pretty nice.

It does that if it can match them, and uploads them if it can't. Downloads on other devices might be 256 kbps AAC either way, so not a backup service. You cannot officially force an upload, but I would expect there to be some kind of h

When using a component framework, I consider components that can only be put on the page once a bad practice. Sure you probably only have the user menu on the page once, but it shouldn‘t rely on that. Not the case in a storybook for example
