Almost every online service I've seen has a "pricing" tab along the top. The prices don't need to be on the main page, but they should be easily discoverable. It seems suspicious to me when it's not there. My 2c.

Not to pick on you, but this is a great example of why open source usability languishes. Customers don't want to get into the nitty gritty on anything. A stock iPhone "just works" (syncing, videos, etc) without needing anything extra. It's

I can second this. When I learn about new topics I like to blog about them (betterexplained.com) to help cement what I've learned, and have a way to relearn (in my own words) a topic once I've inevitably forgotten. I think you'll find this

Unfortunately, smaller independent films and authors probably do hope you stumble upon their works -- it's notoriously difficult to sell books unless you are picked up by a major publisher. I think his point is that things like the App stor

Seconded. I started blogging at betterexplained.com to tutor myself; I wanted to store just the 'aha moment' that made a concept click. Writing helps you remember ideas and discover new ones in the process.

"This single statement, apparently written by some sub-contractor they had outsourced admin interface programming to, cost them millions of NOK in lost sales." The company didn't intend to block opera. Also, it's shortsighted to take a vind

Thanks -- yep, I'm definitely more in the physics camp vs. the pure math. On convolution, it's an integral and can be thought of as a type of multiplication too, right? :)

Hi, thanks for the comment. My main point is that going beyond the "area" understanding leads to a better understanding of calculus: * Finding area does not readily imply an inverse operation, but multiplication does ("division" is differen

Not even the PR implications, but just the security/technical. How does an OS vendor block access to a website? Deny it in the hosts file? Add a default firewall rule? Code a special case in IE? Any such incident would cause irrevocable dam

Not even for premium parts, but just for everyday items. Coat hangers, hooks, cups, stands, all those random little plastic connectors that are sold at huge margins. Heck, even plastic army men, or miniature figures for various board games.

I'm not a math expert, but I like trying to follow these proofs as a puzzle. Here's my handwavy, intuitive take: 1) Setup a matrix to advance fibonacci numbers Define a matrix A so that A times (Fib1, Fib2) = (Fib2, Fib3) That is, A "advanc

Just took a look as I'm very interested in education. Clean design, but the purpose was unclear. * Screenshots too zoomed out to be useful. Looks like some type of list, but of what? * List concrete examples of what the site does. "Organize

Great analysis. I can't put my finger on it either, but there is something about the colors and spacing that makes me implicitly look away / be unable to read the bing results. I've been conditioned to ignore any text that has a certain for

Unfortunately I think it works in the reverse. Cultures that have arranged marriages tend to have fewer women's rights (how easily can the wife initiate the divorce?), social stigmas against divorced women (who would want you?), lack of fea

I agree. I've long chased-after a notion of "information density" -- you want to get the best bang for your (written) buck. Zinsser's book is one of my favorites.

Shameless self-promotion, but I write about math in an intuitive way here: http://betterexplained.com I think the key is realizing that math is about manipulating a mental model of an idea. The wrong model can make certain tasks impossibl

I totally agree -- epsilons and deltas were invented to deal with issues of rigor that were raised 100 years after Newton. In the meanwhile, he was getting stuff done with his "nonrigorous" Calculus.

I'm not sure if this is a list about intellectual honesty, but it's a good way to see if someone is interested in finding the true answer to a question, vs. being "right".
