I'd just like to point out that the CIA has gone so far as to have a meme warfare department. CIA agents posting on HN is well within the realms of possibility. Don't take everything you read here at face value

I'm pretty sure that this got immediately downvoted on reddit because it's a crackpot conspiracy theory, not because someone is seeking to control the narrative.

Not Belgium but the Netherlands, I've seen it myself. Here it's a public issue, even being discussed in parliament.

What a terrible article. Clickbait title, super obvious answer that everybody should've learned in middle school, some nontruths (some mass does get converted to energy. It's a negligible amount (as E=mc^2 and c is big) but it&#

Depends on what it is, either semver for things where backward compatibility is necessary or just "version 1, version 2 etc." where a new version is a big enough change you should consult the documentation to know what is going on

I think property ownership is an instinctive trait. Just like you don't have to tell a cat to piss against all the trees to assert ownership, you probably don't need to tell people about property. I guess we could tell them "

If we only have one sentence, we'd best make sure we cram as much information into that sentence as possible. Finally those years of studying Latin are paying off.

Not sure how admiring a man who made billions of dollars, build some fantastic property, became president of the United States, is a pretty good golf player, etc. is depressing. The man has achieved more than 99.99999% of people will ever a

Personally I look towards people I admire; especially times they screwed up. For example, right now Donald Trump is somebody that's very inspiring to me, because I consider him a great and admirable man, who has also made many mistakes

None of that changes anything about the fact that they regularly publish half-truths or outright lies, though. As is the case in this situation. There's a big gap between theory and practice.

The Amish are a very interesting people, I respect them very much. I wouldn't want to live that way, but you have to have some admiration for people who can hold on to their principles like that in the face of modern conveniences.

The archives are so vast that the data in them becomes mostly meaningless; the only point in reading them is to either check out threads that happened recently, or look at legendary posts (which would've been screencapped anyways)

Undocumented implies they're perfectly fine immigrants, we just don't know about them. This is misleading. Illegal immigrants are criminals, and there's nothing wrong with referring to them as such. You wouldn't refer to

Emacs has some design decisions that are the result of 20 years of concessions on a ton of different platforms, and some of those are questionable anno 2017. Emacs' actual codebase definitely isn't bad.
