So, how much of this data is speculative hoarding, and how much energy is being wasted here?

Computers do seem to encourage constant revision of small snippets. It's the same with art. You'll see artists with their fingers on CTRL-Z and re-drawing each line a dozen times until they're happy, line by line. I'm gu

Not really. It's still an art form. The output of a tool is only as good as its operator. Would you hire the developers of Photoshop to draw your paintings?

More important than that is just using portable technologies that you can easily use a hosted version of, as well as be able to run the whole thing on your own machine. If you can't even run your own code yourself you're going to

Why not just develop out in the open from the start, instead of dangling an open source carrot? You might even get community contributions.

I felt that experience after playing with GPT-3 for a while too. The constant flawlessly average grammar makes everything else sound like it. It lacks identity beyond being perfectly average.

Any commercial company building a "metaverse" will to some extent just end up with another walled garden. Which, I suppose, goes against the ideals of a metaverse. Only a fully open source project could give the freedom to do anyt

Not using, but building. It significantly lowers the barrier of entry for new customers to use the tech. What's important for me is that users can ramp up from drag 'n drop to coding by hand. Otherwise they might just end up feeli

Yep. It seems to occasionally add keyboard layouts if your region, language, and keyboard layout are different. Not handy if you live abroad. The new UI assumes it's more clever than the user.

Just point out the attack vectors, with some reference on solving those. No need to "you're implementing things yourself. bad. use someone else's library". That is gatekeeping indeed, and a rather insulting way to expres

Yup, it is an impressive tech. My point is rather that most of the marketing speak makes it sound like an _impossible_ upscaling tech, rather than an impressive temporal super sampling tech. I do wonder about the "better than rendering

DLSS is TAAU, it's still temporal, based on a 2x2 grid. 2.0 is simply a ML implementation. It doesn't upscale single frames, it doesn't add additional detail to textures. It's "temporal upscaling", which is pre

Marketing speak makes a lot of tech sound more complex, advanced, or magical than it usually is. This sadly seems to be becoming more common lately in the 3D graphics industry. (In a similar marketing trend, Nvidia's "Deep Learnin
