There's a lot of room between a loose union of independent countries, like EU, and a federal system like in US. There's a huge difference between a state like California, and a state like Louisiana. Perhaps we should let them gove

The concept of a memory module, separate from a prediction engine, makes sense to me, our brains might operate like that (short vs long term memory). Many research groups have been trying to implement this idea, recent paper from Meta comes

You're talking about something else. This discussion started from the claim that private sector has to absorb the eliminated government workers. If I understand you correctly, you claim that necessary government positions have been eli

How are these "large-scale reductions in force" different from recent mass layoffs in big tech? Are both equally bad? I work at a startup - they can terminate my employment at any time, for any reason. Do you think it's unfai

I asked this question because we don't live in a communist society. No one owes me a job just because I exist. I get a job because someone wants to hire me, and if no one wants to hire me, then I will be unemployed. When unemployed, I

The report from Tony Blair institute is pretty good, unfortunately they write: AI capabilities, however, are fast evolving. The next wave is expected to be “strong” or “general” AI (AGI). AGI applications will exhibit more autonomy, be abl

So you’re assuming rich guys will spend so much that 40% of their spent money will cover 60% of the entire UBI budget? Or do you also want rich guys to pay income tax? No matter how I look at this I don’t see it working without a massive f

Sure. But transition to new professions will be a lot slower than layoffs. We are likely to face unprecedented unemployment rates for at least several years before people learn new skills, and meanwhile AI keeps improving and automates more

30% of people in US pay mortgage, average payment is $2200. I have no idea where even $2k/mo of UBI will come from – when no one works, no one pays taxes. To avoid social unrest some new methods of wealth redistribution will have to ap

None of these links provide any guesses about the impact of AGI on unemployment rates. By AGI I mean AI that is as smart and as capable as an intelligent and highly educated human. What will happen when in a few years companies realize tha
