People get wicked good by solving hard problems. Many young developers use AI to solve problems with little effort. Not sure what effect this will have on the quality of future developers.

What AI are you using? I use o1 and it hasn’t tried to bullshit me so far. Would love to hear some examples of o1 bullshitting.

NVDA trade was always a short-term thing NVDA has been going up for the last 10 years (with 2022 being the only exception). AI today is better than anyone could hope for, and I don’t see any reasons to not expect further advances.

The irony - people looking to buy a house in Bay area laugh at my 6K mortgage because it’s so ridiculously low to them.

You are confusing 6k and 12k mortgages: the former is to buy a modest house today in most decent areas in the US. The latter is to buy a modest house in Bay Area, where a large fraction of hacker news users reside. A “modest” house to me is

Let’s look at income stats: to be top 1% earner in US you need to make 787k a year. 1% in California: >1M. Source: https://www.visualcapitalist.com/mapped-the-income-needed-to... Several millions of people in US make mor

6k mortgage for a modest house in any decent area in US, 3k per kid private school, 3k other monthly expenses, 2k food: that’s already 17k/mo with just 2 kids. Plus vacations, plus setting aside at least a few thousand a month for reti

Even if OpenAI hires 1000 people this year at $1M salary each, that’s just $1B. This year they plan to spend $8.7B. People they hire are still competitive with their best models, so why not hire people? Though I’ll be surprised if they’re s

Maybe. For me to consider buying some unknown hardware it needs be a lot better than Nvidia. Like double the speed, half the power, and half the price. And the software better be rock solid and tested on all popular models. Many startups ha

I see the DIGITs box as mainly for inference, not training. It allows me to load a fairly large model (e.g. 70B llama or 12B flux) and run it locally at decent speeds.

I’d also like to see this in music generation. Tools like Suno are cool but I would much rather have something that generates MIDIs and instrument configurations instead. Sounds like you're looking for something like https:/&#x

Now is the time when we have thousands of people laid off from other FAANGs looking for jobs. It seems to be slowly getting better, but it's still pretty far from when you can ask for anything.
