For me, the most interesting part is the fact that there are armv7 and arm64 builds now. So we can like, give our kids an rpi4 with 8 GB RAM and they get a proper IDE for real programming languages, not just Scratch.

A bit off-topic, but when you think about it, it’s interesting how our vocabulary is shaped by gravity. I mean, why “vertically aligned” and not “horizontally aligned”, right? It’s not like the performance of the battery actually changes if

Which is gaming the system, if you ask me. Cracking coding interviews would be considered “overfitting” in statistical learning parlance. You may ace the interview, but for most people the performance at coding interviews has no correlation

Odd. Your problem might be caused by badly formatted epubs? I'm using Calibre 5.0.0 on Ubuntu and I have no problem with a Chinese novel epub in vertical layout. The mouse cursor even turns sideways for selecting text and I can use t

The ability to highlight and browse the highlights is HUGE. It makes Calibre really useful for language learning (e.g. by reading novels). I can now highlight new vocabulary or idioms and see them in context when I need to, without me havin

The other day I learned about a thing called “trade dress” while reading up on the seizure of the OnePlus earbuds as “counterfeit Apple AirPods” by the US Customs. And now I’m wondering how all these theming things that make one OS look lik

Would it help if mail clients can be configured with a list of e-mail addresses or domains that are known to prefer plain text, and then automatically warn the user and suggest to switch to plain text? Arguably such mail clients can come wi

I think the comparisons could also use some normalization with respect to per capita income (mean, mode, median?). 1 USD in the US doesn't mean the same thing as 1 USD in China. From the consumers' perspective, it's about aff

I think it depends on which camp you're in: - the camp that believes pay should be proportional to the value produced; or - the camp that believes pay should be proportional to the effort put in.

Unfortunately it seems that it's not an international release. You need to buy a ticket from one of the participating venues, and then your virtual screening would be limited to the country of the venue. I live in Hong Kong, so I'

Hours are also not necessarily a good measure of contribution. A good developer can put in 1 hour of work and produce more value than a bad developer in 2, 5, or even 10 hours.

I thought that's where law student interns come in. Basically law firms hire law students. When stuff like this comes up, the real lawyer can give hints to the law student and the law student goes talk with the client. The law student
