No, I'm talking about menu like "File, Edit, View ...". It's just not visible because you have to put your mouse on that panel to see it. It's not that it's "unity thing", it's just that I'm not sure if you can do that in Awesome WM.

offtopic: did new Chrome broke fonts completely only for me? They're now blurry so I had to switch to Firefox.

Firefox lazy-load is still better. Also, Ubuntu's future integration with audio-menu also (why wasn't it done on browser-level?).

I wouldn't be so sure because of the display resolution. Do windows and Linux work good on that?

Is there a possibility for packages for non-core software to be built statically with all their dependencies? Why not use this approach?

One more time. It's horrible and wrong that this kind of vendor-lockness and insecurity of personal data "by default" exist and considered OK. And that fact that they added switch to make you able to install your own OS doesn't change this

I'm getting crazy on this. Just quick recap: 1. I did a statement that people who need skype won't buy it. 2. Someone told me that "these things have hangout instead". 3. I pointed that it doesn't matter since all your contacts are still in

Linux crowd is just happy because of no more "I need %s windows-only software". But in everything else -- you're absolutely right, it's horrible that this type of vendor-locked systems even exist.

Yes. But only if it would matter to current skype-users. I think Facebook would be able to replace skype quickly (since everybody have Facebook), but not Google.

I find author to be right in he's statement, but wrong in type signature that can't do anything other from what he described. Actually, your type signature is better (in C++) since it doesn't contain concrete types, which means you cannot u

Well, I agree that they don't have such power right now , but I don't think it's currently biggest bottleneck (linux doesn't break that often, + LTS releases get more and more usable, for example 12.04 is already good). The bigger thing cu

Well, I'm actually not sure they do. I'd like very much to get some real-world example and experience to see. But until then, I don't think that clicking the same button >1000 times to make JIT work will be faster in real life. Overall,

It's not faster. It's only faster for specific use-case, running the same stuff for long time in a loop. This use-case is a good fit for running webapps, but not small scripts, hooks, mobile or desktop apps that trigger some (relatively) sm

My version of TLDR: Article is good-written irony-style novel about relation between developers and "best practices" out there. Author is making a high-level (a bit sarcastic) review of bunch of methodologies like NASA strategies, TDD, BDD,
