I write java all the time and have the following things I never want to deal with again: - Maven - Gradle - Weak type systems - 1 class per file and other dogma that leads to a million tiny pieces of spaghetti (cough GoF) - java version hel

I loved your policy and appreciated how principled it was. People here are too harsh and most of them don't write code in Rust where regular updates are much more the norm than other communities.

Actually we have seen a ton of success using it for spring boot microservices - each microservice has its own BUILD file within the monorepo. Test execution in spring can be parallelized as needed (and not used if not needed!) but i find ou

I dont think thats true at all. Even the sugar they have is strange: see `go` and `make`. Go has plenty of good features and "lack of ergonomic faculties for common programming idioms in Go" is not one of them.

I and many others would disagree that they made the decision "at the expense of the long-term Rust health". You aren't arguing in good faith if you put words in their mouth. There is no data to suggest the long-term health of

This approach is sort of similar to an LSM - you can make this more efficient by doing a routine compaction in your storage whereby you collapse many patches on top of the original version and call it v2. You can say have a row with the sam

Its far better than it was 10 years ago - JS hate is wielded here by people who haven't used it in years. Unlike C++ the language has changed (definitely for the better). I don't even particularly care much for it but the people w

While I dont care much for the fluent cutesey langauge as you call it - the error messages and consistency are where it shines. Getting an entire team to write similar error messages in test cases is a fools game - just agree on an assert l

You make an excellent point i just wanted to correct your usage of "unsafe" in rust: It does not signify "im writing c" now as many invariants are still upheld in Rust even with the usage of unsafe. Id say its still much

Its in poor taste to call it a "meme stock purchase" when it legitimately has a chance to make (and for many has already made) investors a lot of money. While there are memes around the stock purchase (no different than with TSL

Many have posted about gradle builds forced on them but I've found modern Gradle to be quite nice. I don't reach for anything too complex - I just list deps and plugins. Writing new plugins is far easier with Gradle than Maven (an

I would say 99% of all articles on this site and r/programming on reddit have someone say exactly what you have - that microservices are an organizational tool. At this point your view is not an unpopular one. However, microservices ca

Andrew Carnegie provided far more real , unquestionable value to people too. It ended up being worth it. The same can be said for Leland Stanford or most other monopolies. They didn't become monopolies by not providing value.
