“Even when I'm not listening to music, people don't bother me when I'm wearing them.” I've never found this to be true. In fact, I find it less annoying if I don't bother wearing them and deal with the interruptions rather than put mine on

For many of us, our entire career eventually boils down to getting people to click on ads. Sit down and think about your product: - Are you chasing the hockey stick, making a free product? You're getting paid to create an ad base that will

The biggest complaint I hear about iOS is the somewhat manual memory management. It's really not that bad, and is nowhere near as tricky as C or C++. To be fair, iOS does have a garbage collector (NSPool), but you have to free up references

I don't think you can really grow or develop your skills in a vacuum. We should encourage people to put their work out in the open. And discourage the negative ego talk that's so prevalent in our communities.

I'm really not seeing the value in the app. Sure, the potential for revenue is huge through location-based advertising, but as an end user I can't see myself using this more than once or twice. It's also kind of creepy. Granted, it's opt in

It's election season and it's a win-win. No one is going to lambast you for trying to protect constituents' privacy (at least not when the government isn't the one snooping).

It's hard to imagine someone enjoying his level of celebrity without even trying to appear pleasant. Even Steve Jobs reserved the bulk of his ire for those that worked for him, and appeared caring to his audience (customers), even "patronly

This is exactly what Apple set out to do, equate the brand with the self - much like fashion. Harley Davidson is another example where this occurs.

I've never understood the enormous popularity of M.G. Siegler. His articles are often published without any attributions or even basic spell checking. Yet somehow he's ridden on the coattails of Apple's ascent by positioning himself among t

Personally I found results from DDG to be inferior to Google results most of the time, so I had to switch back after a week or so. The functionality being described here is something that I actually use Alfred for these days.

I hate these fluff pieces. There's a huge infatuation with mobile apps these days that's not based on reality. The media either, presents them as super simple projects that are making people rich or gimmicks that can't possibly take too much

Given the choice between looking at ads and being assaulted by the hideousness of rusted, empty signs, I think I'd take the ads.

A little off topic, but this stood out: > One user, Dave Newton, wrote: “In any case, I’m done–nyc.rb is pretty much ruined for me, before my first in-person meetup, before I had a chance to contribute back.” Overreaction and hyperbole

It's highly un-PC to say, but any money coming out of Russia requires a higher level of scrutiny due to the environment there. Actually, it's probably a great idea to research any investor throughly before taking money. There's an incredibl

"Work from a founder’s home" Works great unless you're married or have a significant other at home. Trust me on this, after a week of seeing your face constantly even the most beloved becomes the most revolting. See also: http://theoatmeal

Standing desks seem to be the new fad. I don't believe that sitting for 10+ hours a day is healthy, but I don't believe that standing that long is healthy either. The bigger problem lie in what motivates us to spend so long at our desks wit

The problem is that those with no taste can't tell they have no taste. It's a wicked problem. Everytime someone mentions that Eclipse sucks, an Eclipse users asks "Why" because they truly don't grok it at a deep level. I see the same thing
