I primarily use macOS, where shortcuts have been almost exclusively mnemonic (e.g. Command-R → R eload) since the earliest Mac models. F-key usage is relegated mostly to lazy ports from other platforms.

It’s such a bummer that the A380 got canned. I flew on Singapore Air’s A380 out of LAX a few times and its ridiculous size made for the largest and most comfortable economy seats I’ve ever booked. Can’t even imagine how nice the premium

Just use any thin and light gaming laptop made in the past 5 years in clamshell mode with the exhaust pointed at your keyboard. That’ll keep one’s hands toasty even doing mundane tasks, those things somehow manage to be space heaters even a

What’s “essential” varies a lot between users. As a mobile dev I’ve been using 60% and 65% boards almost exclusively since 2015 and haven’t missed the removed keys much at all. Really though, to me the problem with full-size keyboards isn’t

Yep, cheating is absolutely rampant in any game where the anticheat is ineffective or nonexistent to the point that it’s barely worth playing games like that in online mode. It’s very frustrating, because I don’t like the idea of rootkit-li

It’s not great, but what makes it that much worse is the hunt for the next apartment that one needs to start a good deal before lease renewal just in case. Just having a single small cat cuts your options in half, and then of course price

Stability is one of the reasons why I bought a few years ago (albeit, not in the SF Bay Area). That ever-looming possibility of needing to move again come lease renewal time, whether that be due to rent hikes or the landlord deciding to do

Relative to US cities, housing in Tokyo is generally pretty affordable. High end condos in the most hot/central parts of the city are still pricy but that’s a small percentage of available housing stock. The places a friend of mine who

I think an overwhelming majority of users aren’t technical enough or well enough versed in UI/UX to be able to put a finger on the frustrations they experience with software, and this is something that’s important to remember when cons

Why would platform maintainers want to encourage the lowest common denominator apps that such an API would undoubtedly result in (as a standardized UI API by definition cannot leverage platform strengths)? Apps like that get made anyway but

While it’s likely we’re best adapted psychologically for small groups, how much of that is universally relevant in a modern context is unclear. A lot of people have left small towns in recent decades due to their often-gossipy social dynami

I believe it’s important to not throw out the baby with the bathwater here. My belief is that much of modernism can be made such that people can thrive in it, but this simply hasn’t yet been a goal for the powers that be. Much of the proble
