Well there is that. One other thing I've learned is that no matter how stresses I get, there's always someone going through worse and here we are. Sorry to hear that man, cannot imagine what you're going through - I've c

I certainly felt no pressure to have children. In fact, up until the moment I decided to have children, I always said I didn't want them. What changed was my partner's boy, and now my boy for all intents and purposes. It made me r

Sensible advice if not coloured with the chalk of Ayn Rand! Hopefully I do a good job and it'll be my honour when my children look after the old when they grow up.

Well it's not for me to recommend. I don't recommend it if you don't feel you've got where you need to be and that matters very much. There's tonnes of reasons why I wouldn't recommend parenthood. I don't

Each to their own - I don't see it as a bad thing. Having children has made me happier and more fulfilled in ways that I could never have imagined. You cannot know the feeling of it until you do. You cannot really understand it until y

Exactly the same :) the guilt of not spending time with my kids and my wife is too much. There have been times where I've tried to sit down and work on something but it's no fun when there's a strong feeling of "I should

Yep and I'd have it no other way. Before kids, I used to be like that. If I "ambitiously worked on side projects", I'd at best miss times I'll never get back and at worse be downright neglectful. That's a "

That's a relief. Three kids mandate 9 to 5 work hours. There isn't much quality time or mental energy to dedicate after that. It's a relief because whatever energy I have left I spend on books, articles, papers. Those things

Your last point is interesting - I believe Idris and/or Agda in fact go out of their way to show a natural number type defined using induction as a key example. I remember being blown away by that. Coming from dynamic languages towards

I read about that actually. They use a 3rds model: retain a 3rd of existing systems, improve on a 3rd of existing systems and bring in a 3rd of totally new gameplay systems. I don't bother with non-gameplay DLC. I don't get these

I've been meaning to play HOI for a while. I was put off by the short time frame it's set in - feels like I need to understand how they handle that compared to multi-hundred year timeframes in EU4/CK2. Mind Vicky is roughly 1

No, it wasn't EU4 / CK2 / Stellaris grade. I just love the Roman period and RTW doesn't cut it (Caesar III satisfies city management in a way). I guess I can't argue if you've sat down and tried to model it - t

Yes, meant unionists. I don't agree with that though. Right now, they are feeble. That's not a good thing when really it's a body representing workers. Productivity, wage growth in the UK is a problem. Is that going to get fi

They released a Rome game on their older engine that's now quite dated. It was pretty fun and I'd recommend it. Because they're so moddable, a total conversion would be possible. I know the mechanics are similar but the game

Yes. The first time I played a paradox game, I closed it due to the overwhelming UI. Takes a bit of perseverance if you want a rich, fully featured strategy experience. After a Paradox game, although fun, Civ just doesn't cut it.

Not sure what you mean? A big plank in Brexit rationale is restricting freedom of movement. I think some hope for a scale back on multiculturalism. Due to once owning an overwhelming empire, I think a lot of people forget "British cult

This is a great example of why you should avoid writing clever code. A clever one-line piece of code requires a blog post to make sense of it. Not slating the article. I thought it interesting and the author does mention this caveat, making

Since I last checked it was still experimental, albeit available in Babel, but there is work on syntax for property initialisers in class bodies e.g: class X { id = (x) => x; } See here: https://github.com/je
