I once lived in an apartment building with a "free stuff pile" near the door. I had to do a double take when I saw a manual for the Miranda programming language. I say go for it.

I've seen these throughout residential neighborhoods in Portland. Most seem to be stocked with romance novels or childrens lit, but my wife recently found a biography of Captain James Cook that she was planning to read.

That's a good soundbite, but I don't like it. Breaking a bad law can be virtuous, but I suspect in this case it's neutral at best.

I recently replaced my dead Toro with a Fiskars reel mower. It really does a great job, but if your lawn hasn't been mowed in a while, you may need to make some extra passes for your first cut.

I use 1Password but it's sharing functionality is sort of a mis-feature. I frequently work with contractors, and use GPG for sharing secure information. Sometimes a GPG-encrypted text file is all that you need.

Or perhaps we're talking about a painter who has an irrational fear of canvases, and will only paint directly on the wall. The work takes place in production, and the results are not easily portable.

My a-ha moment for Linux HA + DRBD came when I realized you could use them to retrofit redundancy and failover onto just about any system. (Of course, this won't protect against your replicated filesystem becoming corrupted, and curren

Have you tried scaling that to a team of at least ten, including a designer? I find Vagrant to be a big help for collaboration.
