You can use Scala with VS Code just in the same way you can do it with Rust. Tooling support for Scala is world-class in many ways. I think your knowledge is pretty outdated.

Well, Scala compiles to JavaScript and native through Scala.js and Scala Native. Plus you can also compile to native with GraalVM Native which works very well.

My favorite mono space font ever. I’ve stuck with it for years and can’t get tired of it. I highly recommend folks give it a try. Keep in mind that things such as font width and letter spacing have a huge influence in how it looks, especial

Andrei Arsenevich Tarkovsky is definitely greater than Stanley Kubrick and David Lynch in my book. He's a genius and I highly recommend reading "Sculping in Time", a book he wrote to explain his approach to film making.

Thanks for the compliment. But, as the author of Bloop, I must say that Bloop is definitely not based on sbt and it departs a lot from the design decisions sbt made.

No, you're misreading that announcement. The Scala team is working, today, on improving Scala 2.13.x and improving the migration and tooling path to Scala 3, as I said before. The fact that 2.14.x won't be release has nothing to d

It can often give false positives, but it's mostly okay and lots of people really enjoy it. It has innovated a lot on finding better ways of showing types. It'd be good if the OP elaborates on what "bad tooling" we have

There's a tension between people using Scala for pure FP and people preferring to opt into pure FP whenever the model domain is needed, or that don't care about tracking every effect in their program and just focus on the 80/

What is the methodology behind these results? If it is what I read in the introduction, judging Kotlin to be more widely used than Scala based on a poll is deceiving and IMO loses any weight this report might carry.

Scala isn’t owned by a company making tools, but in the recent years it has experienced a big transformation on the tooling space with projects such as mill, Ammonite, Metals, Scalafix or Bloop. I’m obviously biased because I’ve worked on s

The Scala community has some clever techniques to ensure that those properties can be proven at compile-time, for example, https://github.com/eaplatanios/tensorflow_scala for TensorFlow and https://github.co

Note that Scala 2.13 (next release) includes a CHAMP hash map implementation, first contributed by the original author and then refined by several Scala contributors, most notably Jason Zaugg (@retronym) and Josh (@joshlemer)

The math doesn’t check out, rankings contradict them (check TIOBE, or google indices, or even StackOverflow rankings). It’s sad to see this kind of conclusions in HN because they are not not only incorrect but dishonest.

Lisp doesn't have any way to define those FP constructs and it's one of the first functional programming languages ever. I think you're being misled by Haskell.
