Productivity is defined in subjective terms. I know several success stories of companies that use Scala as a better Java and find themselves more productive. That doesn't mean they don't do any functional programming -- it just me

I work for the Scala Center and I'd like to comment on some of the points you make to hopefully explain how I see things from my side. You can expect my opinion to be biased but I'll try to stick to the facts. > Haskell influen

I don't know what he meant by that either, but it's important to mention that `Scala != Scalaz` and that sbt is not the only build tool used in the community (and it's certainly not built by academics!).

At the Scala Center we’re working on addressing these problems. We now have working groups devoted to ease coding in Scala and make it easier for any dev to use any build tool.

I challenge the fact that Rust and Kotlin are improving faster than Scala. Scala is not only more stable, but is under active development and there are lots of discussions to improve the language over time (check our SIP meetings). Kotlin d

I think the standard compilation speed of Scala is around 3000 loc/s. https://developer.lightbend.com/blog/2017-06-12-faster-scala... Your Rust example compiles at about 180loc/s.

After reading this, I have two questions: 1. Are there any statistics showing the ratio of security issues between Android and iOS? 2. What's the most common phone among security researchers? To be honest, I'm wary of believing th

I think it has very much changed. In any case, open source tools are there to be improved by the community. If you feel sbt is not solving your problems in the right way or could be improved, please get in touch with us. We're always h

Which are these major projects? Spark? As far as I'm concerned, they are working on a way to upgrade to Scala 2.12. But closure serialization is the main blocker IIRC, for now.

What do you mean? That you depend on other dependent projects releasing versions compatible with 2.12? Isn't this reasonable?

You're not reading them wrong. There are two things that made 2.13 faster than 2.12, one of which is suprising. 1. Ports from 2.12.x: https://github.com/scala/scala/pull/6001 . 2. The removal of Scala par
