I love the flexibility of my house - paint a wall, hang my tv, run speaker wire to my surrounds by going up in my attic, have a squat rack in my garage, etc. But after replacing my 30 year old roof, 10 year old water heater, and 20 year old

For those of you who follow the post’s idea of filling up your calendar, do you mark the time as “free” so that your employer/coworkers can schedule over your time for meetings? I’m thinking of the feature “find a convenient time for e

Totally agree. I was replying more about why I chose to pay off my house vs. sitting in a mortgage for X more years so that I can put more money into the market. During the time I was paying off my house, I did put money into the market. I

Financially this makes sense. But for me, I’m sitting in a house that’s paid off. If I lose my job (or have to quit for medical reasons) and I can’t get a new job, I’ve got shelter. I can live Indefinitely where I am right now just paying u

Three things come to mind. The first is that at age 40 I finally started taking my health seriously. Long story short, I got bit by the “lift as much heavy weight as I can”. I’d love to one day lift respectable heavy weights. But at 44 with

Are the projects related? Or all unique? If related, you can create a uber project and import each directory as a module. I’ve got a project right now with 5 modules - 2 JS, 1 Go, 1 Python, and 1 Ruby (Rails). I’ve found this keeps memory u

I haven’t. I skipped my yearly physical in April. Not sure when I’ll get it rescheduled, but I’ll make a note to ask about this.

Now? Yeah. I could hit a 7 minute. But it would hurt. I don’t recover as fast as I did pre-COVID after doing conditioning work. I got it end of March, and I didn’t start training again until end of May I believe? Strength came back relative

Reading this brought back memories. I caught it back in March here in WA state. I’m not sure when I got it. But I’m pretty sure it was the week before the lockdown (March 23rd). I was already self-isolating, but I just got careless one day.

If I'm traveling with someone, I'll stop every 2/3 hours. But if I'm by myself (and was still in my 20s)? I'm going to optimize every second (Gatorade bottles FTW). No reason other than to say I did...

No. I pay Fastmail each month because I like the various domain tools they have. A $100 a year for the features that HEY offers isn't worth it to me. I don't have most of the problems that they wrote code for.

0400? No thanks. I usually naturally wake up sometime between 0800 and 0830. I have a 0900 alarm just in case I’m sleeping heavy. I throw on pants, take my dog out into the backyard, and scroll through what came in on Slack overnight while

How so? I'm looking at the Netflix app in the App store right now and it offers in app purchases. I don't have to sign up before using it. I can sign up in the app (I'm assuming based on this screenshot from the App Store -

Sorry. They don't have ownership. But Netflix runs the majority of their service on AWS. That's why I was asking about also breaking away from services that are N degrees away. I mean...I can stop using AWS directly, but if my Net

Do you include companies within N degrees of Amazon? Netflix for example? If so, no. I could quit, but I wouldn’t. Shopping? For the most part I have because of the pandemic. A lot of the stuff I ordered was pushed further and further out f

I built an ETL on top of AWS Lambda. I had to pull data from Facebook/Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, and Pinterest on a schedule - once an hour. The pipeline took about 3 minutes to run. I used a CloudEvent cron to kick it off, a few lam

While I don’t do it anymore, in my high school and college years I hunted quite a bit. Depending on the terrain, I would routinely have to pack out 100 to 125 pounds of meat uphill. Wasn’t running (sometimes shuffling if getting dark or sta

Just curious, I've got 15+ years of experience I can put on there. If I simply listed the ones that I thought were most relevant to the position I was applying for, would you ask why there are gaps? For example - during the 2008 downtu

To be fair, I used to list it. But I found (n=2) that recruiters/hiring managers got hung up on that one 4 month block vs. the 15+ years of other experience I had on there. One asked "Well if you're going to cut bait and run

Maybe this what they meant? I dunno. I can see this being helpful in irb/pry. In the end, we did end up making an offer to this candidate. They did well on everything we asked them. This was the only "brain fart" they had.
